I just finished a Glock match a few weeks ago. Are all these matchs disorganized? We waited over 90 minutes for each stage, what is with that. I'm a realatively new shooter and have competed in several matchs in the west and I must say Glock does a poor job.
I shot the Desert Classic with over 400 shooters over three days with 10 stages and I never waited longer than 25 minutes. I hope this is not how GSSf runs things.

I suspect you are referring to the Waldorf, MD match, where GSSF had problems with the RO's following the administrative rules. Nearly all GSSF matches run smoother than the Waldorf Match. The Conyers, GA match draws nearly 600 shooters, and I normally finish it in under 2.5 hours, shooting in the morning. It is even faster after 2:00pm.

Please don't judge GSSF by that one isolated match.

you'll find differences in many of the gssf matches. some are better/worse than others. but, it's hard to compare a gssf match to other matches because there are some important differences.

-gssf matches are open to anyone that shows up on either saturday or sunday. many (most?) other matches REQUIRE pre-registration. many also limit the number of participants.

-you can shoot the gssf stages in any order you please.

-you can shoot multiple categories at a gssf match.

nobody likes waiting around excessively, but it's usually not too bad. i shot 9 stages at the area 6 uspsa match this year. i was there from 8:30am until 6:30pm. i've shot 4 categories (12 stages) at many gssf matches and have never come close to taking that long. if you pre-register and get to the range early, you will likely decrease the amount of time you'll have to wait.

After shooting a major match at Rio like the classic almost any other match will be a letdown. Even the nationals dont usually run as well.

You will wait longer for stages at a GSSF simply because of the structure. Instead of a squad traveling stage to stage you have open squadding and you can can get in line without being present or get bumped over and over as people walk up. The formats and squadding make a lot of the difference. Best bet if you want to get in and out fast is to shoot sunday afternoon.

It should also be noted that a GSSF match is one of a few if not the only match where you will find that brand new shooters and junior shooters are welcomed and encouraged to participate. As we all know, new shooters take longer to run through as they have legetimate questions and a careful RO is alway's mindfull of safe gun handling, and as we all know safety comes first.

I left the house planning on spending the whole day shooting...I got there early Sat morning and shot 2 catagories and finished in 2.5 hours...some Ro's are quicker, all the ones I met were friendly...some matches are more organized but slow or fast, I always have a good time....besides, when's the last time you heard of Kimber, Colt, S&W or Springfield putting on matches all across the country and giving away cash, pistols and refurbishing your equipment while you wait?

thats a great benefit. not only will they fix just about any problem, they do it for free! once i broke the ejector on a gun (totally my fault). took it to the next match and the armorer just put a new one it...no questions.
