So heres the deal. i had a malfunction at the range. i brought my G19 to a Gun Smith here in town. Got a call this afternoon that he had taken it apart and looked at it and i had "a bulge in my barrel"? Has anyone ever heard of this before? He said he's not 100% sure what caused it. He thought that there was too much powder n led build up in the barrel, which in turn cause insufficent amount of room for the bullet to travel. The problem with that is there is less than 350 rounds through the gun. I shot 200 cleaned it, then 150 a week later, then I had the malfunction where the slide was locking back and jamming. I'm assuming that there is some sort of manufacturing defect. Has anyone ever heard of this? And I have heard Glock Customer service is amazing. So what are my chances they are going to replace the barrel for me? Thanks guys

DO NOT SHOOT THAT GLOCK ANY MORE!!!

Seems you had a "squib" which is when a weak cartridge's projectile gets
stuck partially through the barrel. Then another round is fired and it hits the
stuck round. The over pressure generated bulges the barrel like you have.

Call Glock, they may service it or tell you to it was ammo related and tell you to get a new barrel.

** What ammunition have you used in it? Still have recipt and boxes for the ammo?

What were you shooting? Factory fresh, or reloaded ammo?

    +1 to not shooting it.

You said the gunsmith reported lead buildup.... were you shooting lead? Is it the stock barrel?

I have always been led (pun intended) to believe that it was a no-no.

+100 on don't shoot it again. Call Glock customer service and see what they tell you. After you get it fixed DON'T shoot the ammo you shot that caused the issue.

If you paid with credit or debit you should be able to track it online through your bank records.

I agree with some of the above...

Send it to Glock, have them go over the pistol completely. If you can, retrieve the box that you shot for LOT verification (If you can). If not, I would say you will have to take the hit in the pocket and pay for a new barrel.

Glad you were not injured during the process of shooting.

How much is a new factory barrel cost for a G19?

Just curious but what does the barrel bulge cause mostly? Failure to cycle the slide? (gets caught on the bulge going back) Terrible accuracy?

It will cause a failure to cycle but if you continue to use (if it is even possible) the weakened barrel can rupture and cause injury...

I've seen them go for anywhere from $125-$250ish.

The bulge (so i was told) can cause it to be innacurate, or because its weakening of the barrel, it could explode or jam again yatta yatta yatta

Normally a bulged barrel will lock or bind the slide. It may move some, it may not move at all.

Do you recall firing a shot that made a rather strange 'dork' sound instead of a loud bang?

Does your barrel look like this one?

Did the glock always cycle or lock back in case of the last round? I can't believe a load that was unable to get the bullet out of the barrel could sufficiently cycle the slide.
