What ever happened to the 17L? I havent seen one in stores since they came out with that new 45 GAP. Is there one without those holes in the bbl and slide? I thought the 17L didn't only when it was a 17LC?

All long slides have the slide cutout. The compensated models have holes in the barrel too.

Is there an advantage to this or is it just cosmetic?

The cutout is to keep the weight of the slide down. It's not cosmetic.

The cutout keeps the weight of the slide the same as a regular 17 for reliability.
The very first 17Ls were ported. None of the second or third gen 17Ls are ported.
17Ls are a limited item in the US market, probably because of the popularity of the 34.
They had a run of them early this year. I gots mines. My FFL has another sitting on his shelf. Want it?

Well, I am kinda still undecided what it is that I want. I think I shall ge me a mac 11 and maybe an ak or a SKS or a....maybe I shall get them all. What do they go for anyways? Around $500 or so that the class III has them at his shop. Does your friend keep those in stock or is that just the only? I already have a 5906 so I am debating whether I should get that one for the looks or a 22 so I can share ammo with my brother when I run out at the range.;)
