Hey folks. If you had to compare recoil of the full size G20 10mm with another handgun, say a .44 mag or .357 or .45 acp, what would you compare it to?

More than a .45 ACP but no more than a .357 magnum.

factory ammo like pmc has very little recoil compared to what i was expecting. now with some hot rodded hand loads it may be alot more.

No more than a 230g +P 45 ACP. The G20s I've owned and own now in no way compare with any magnum revolver. Just not in the same league as the magnums when it comes to recoil and that's even with the fully loaded stuff like Double Tap or Buffalo Bore.

Depends on the load but very similar to the .357 Not even close to the .44 mag though my .44 is a revolver and recoils a lot more than the 10mm in a Kimber 1911 that i was shooting. (Not mine). So not really apples to apples.

Thanks folks. I am considering getting a larger caliber for hunting deer at under 30 yds. I currently have a .44 mag 7 1/2 barrel and it is kicking my butt with factory loads. I had been told that the 10 MM in an auto was a better choice for girlie men. I am considering the Glock 20 full frame. Anyone want to talk me out of it?

I owned a Delta Elite 10mm and have fired a friends Glock 20. The recoil of the 10mm is blown out of proportion by a lot of people. Compared to a 44 magnum the 10 mm has light recoil.

I have a 29SF. The day I bought it, I was really hesitant because I'd never shot a 10mm before. I talked the guy at the gun shop into letting me shoot it before I bought it. (They had a range & it was, technically used, though couldn't have had more than 100 rounds through it)

I walked out of the range grinning...the recoil was no worse than my 27. I've fired factory target loads and my 1250fps Corbon defense loads. The recoil is negligible. I put a Limb Saver grip sleeve on it and that took it down to nothing.

Far and away I have a harder time keeping my Walther PPS .40 under control than I do my 29.

    Get it. You'll love it!

So I guess a 10 MM it is gentlemen. I'm going to the gun show tomorrow and if I spot one it will be my precious.

I let my 11 yr old bro in law shoot G20. It was his first time shooting a gun. Made a decent group too.

He was fairly small at the time.

If he can handle it...and you cant...I'd be embarassed.

You might also consider a .45colt revolver or keeping what you have and using lighter loads. You can shoot .44 special out of a .44mag cant you? Im not too familiar with .44s

But the G20 is a great gun.

Unless you are just dying to get a 10mm... download your .44 to a more manageable level and stick with that.

My wife handles the G20 with full power doubletap just fine, and she's all of 5'4" 110 soaking wet and carrying a bucket of chicken.

The glock 20 10mm acts on what you feed it. If you feed it normal mellow factory loads then it feels exactly like a .40 G23 or G22 because that's exactly what it is. If you feed it hotter loads like double tap 135's then it will feel a bit different as the muzzle jumps more with 1600fps stuff. Just physics thats all.. and the glock 20 and it's grip angle do a great job

I recently got a G17 (9mm) and shot that a few hundred times, and put about 50 rounds through a buddy's Springfield 1911 .45 ACP, and then got the jones for a bigger caliber. I bought a G20 and the first time I shot it, I expected WAY more recoil than I experienced. I was shooting 180 grain 1275 fps target loads, but I was still expecting more. I could barely tell a difference between that and my 17 with 115g target loads.
