"In an effort to intelligently preserve and grow the GLOCK brand and deliver uncompromised quality and maximum customer satisfaction, we are focused on our mission of future-oriented manufacturing technologies. This includes extending the latest Gen5 technology enhancements to the .40 caliber line of pistols. Availability will begin in October; however, the focus will be on supporting existing .40 caliber agencies on transitioning to the latest technologies within the law enforcement market. While we will continue to support fielded Gen4 pistols and agencies with Gen4 models, we have stopped 9×19 and .40 caliber Gen4 productions for the US commercial market. We look forward to bringing the performance improvements of the Gen5 technologies to other areas of product development."
Curious if Gen 4 .40 have thicker slide like Brazil Police models.

No big deal to me. I think the Gen 5 is better anyway.

As do I, I can live with the finger grooves, but prefer Gen 5 without.

This makes sense. The only thing I will miss from Gen 4 is the finger grooves. Gen 5 Glocks in the other calibers are going to be very nice guns.

So 3-pin Gen5's for .40 or .40 is going the way of 45GAP? I like the Gen5 design changes except the trigger spring and slide/barrel finish. That little plastic arm the trigger spring rides on has little plastic pegs that are prone to snap off and going from melonite to practically anything else is a downgrade.

Yes the Gen5 40s will have slides widths of 27.5 mm instead of 25.5 mm. They will also have the front slide serrations and be available in MOS.

All my Glocks are Gen 4s, minus my 43. I prefer them. In another thread, it appeared that Glock was going to maintain production of the Gen 3 guns because California, et al.

While I currently have all the models I want in Gen 4, I'd not have much problem reverting to Gen 3 again. I've owned them and shot them for decades and could again. I'm not really interested in Gen 5. Especially as it sounds the bigger calibers will be thicker and heavier.

Why? Are they better? I am being honest, I am ignorant in this matter.

Yay! I've been saying for quite a long time that I'm very interested in a G23.5 and will very likely get one when they become available. Particularly if offered in FS.

I normally don't get excited about 'new' pistols. But for some reason I was really excited about the G23 when they were first introduced 30 years ago. But for one reason or another I didn't get one until 20 years later. Carried that G23.3 off duty for quite a while despite the fact I don't care for finger grooves on a Glock compact. So if/when they produce a Gen 5 G23FS without the finger grooves...well, that does excite me. I can foresee this going right into the carry rotation and maybe even the main EDC just because I like it so well.

Looks like October is the go date but they'll be working on L.E. contracts first. Wonder how long it would take to get the Gen 5 40's available for the civilian market?

Like always you never know what Glock is going to do next.
    I like my gen2 G-19 & G-23. most of my others are gen3's.
Well, a gen4 G-41 is nice too. I don't know for sure I guess my G-43X is a gen4 too. I don't have any Gen5s yet, been holding off waiting for 40 in gen5. Although the G-45 has been tempting me.

It's all subjective. Some folks are hard core dedicated to a specific Gen. Some could care less. Some like finger grooves, some don't. Some like the ambi controls, some don't and many don't care. As far as 'better' in terms of reliability/durability/accuracy and such the various Gens of 3, 4 or 5 are probably about the same.

Snatch up the NIB Gen 4 summer specials now because they are future collectors models.
