Glock 44 problems corrected by Glock

Early last November I bought a G44 for a very nice price. I bought a G44 because of all the “rave reviews” I read about it. Mine was not one of those pistols.

It had the following issues:
  • Offhand shots grouped at 6” at 10 yards. Rested the groups were 4”
  • POI would shift left to right by a couple of inches. No idea why and Glock didn’t say.
  • Very ammo finicky. To the point where I wondered how many licks it would take to get to the chocolaty center…with a sledge hammer. 😆
Ammo that worked well:
CCI Mini Mags, Velocitors and Stingers, Aquila Interceptor. Remington Golden Bullet.

Ammo that operated okay with a few FTEs: Aguila Super Extra jacketed and LRN, Federal Champion (blue box)

Ammo that didn’t work well in the G44:
Federal Gold Medal Match and Automatch
Winchester Super X high & hyper velocity and Wildcat, Remington Thunderbolt.

NONE were very accurate at all.

At the end of April I called Glock and shipped the gun to them. They received it on May 1st. I got it back on Friday, May 19th. Here are the docs they sent with it including the work order. On the work order it appears they listed the slide cover as a replacement part.

They also sent two targets showing some pretty good shooting by tech. #111. The knives are just holding the

Yesterday morning I field stripped the gun to see exactly what was done. They didn’t replace a slide cover, they replaced the whole slide and the RSA and were kind enough to install the Hi Viz FO front sight I had on my gun when I sent it. It also appears that they did a really nice cleaning on the frame and frame parts or they replaced all the frame parts as well.

The system is limiting the number of photos I can post. It says you can post 10, but this is it for now. I have tried numerous times

I took it to the range yesterday and put 240 rounds through it. It operated nearly perfectly. I had 2 FTEj’s that caused a jam. One with Fed Auto Match snd one with Aguila Super Extra 38 grain CPHP.
I shot:
CCI Mini Mag - 50 rounds
Fed Auto Match - 50 rounds
Federal American Eagle - 40 rounds
Aguila SE 38 gr. - 50 rounds
CCI Standard Velocity - 50 rounds 😎

I was stoked when it fired and cycled perfectly with the CCI Std Velocity ammo.
Accuracy was fair but the weirdest thing was it seemed most accurate with Fed Auto Match. More testing is needed to find what it truly likes.

I must say that I am very pleased that Glock came through. I have never sent a gun back to Glock. They didn’t communicate with me at all regarding what was done or what was needed. I guess the note I sent was enough.

The system is still giving me grief. This is it. I give up.

I’m glad they got you sorted. I don’t know if you’re a member of GLOCK IQ, but there is a member on that forum that has been posting threads on his G44 and ammo chrono data and reliability. Fioochi has been one of the better performers for him along with some CCI loads. You might want to check it out.

Thanks for the update @Pat Riot , and the happy ending. Really good post even if the pics gave you problems.

Replaced slide? So now your frame and slide Serials don't match obviously, did you check?

The barrel wasn’t changed so it matches the frame.
I didn’t see a serial number on the slide. Only a part number.
Honestly, it wouldn’t bother me. I don’t buy guns as collectibles or to resell them.

I don’t own a G44, so I’m curious, does GLOCK not put a serial number on the slide under the ejection port on the G44 like it does on the rest of its guns? Perhaps it’s a blank slide that only gets a serial number when paired with a new frame. I’d rather it be blank if it was just a replacement. Keep the work order in case you ever decide to sell it as proof it’s an OEM part.
The 44 has matching serial numbers on the slide, frame and the frame. If it worked I wouldnt care its a fun gun not a collectors piece! Although I guess if its a first run serial number prefix it might matter. But its been shot, so not so much.

Okay, this is odd. The “new” slide has the correct serial number and matches the frame and barrel yet the plastic portion and the metal look brand new. The plastic has no wear marks. Perhaps the metal portion was ultrasonically cleaned as it’s pristine with no wear. The gun had 2000 rounds through it when I shipped it.

I guess it really doesn’t matter. It seems to run like a champ now and that’s what really matters.

Or they took a new blank slide and added your SN?

Perhaps, but that seems like a lot of work.
Here’s the slide with S/N

When the .44 runs right, it is really fun to shoot, and useful, too.

Thanks for your post.

Which type of Mini-Mag (36 grain JHP or 40 grain RN) did you shoot through it?

This particular comment indicates to me that it still gave you problems after Glock warrantied it. However, a later post said that you're satisfied with it. Please clarify.

Thanks again.

My G44 seems to prefer CCI Mini-Mag 40 gr RN. I've tried several other brands of .22 and the standard velocity ones didn't cycle correctly. And the Mini-Mags worked very well on the steel targets on the one GSSF Outdoor Match I've been able to shoot.

Maybe I should send my G44 back?🤔 (Probably not, because it was good enough for first place in Rimfire the last GSSF Indoor Match I shot). :)

The mini mag 40 grains work well though accuracy is okay, not great. 3 - 4” groups at 10 yards and there’s always a flyer or two.

My comment about “the system not working” was about the forum not allowing me to post a couple of photos.
Glad you got yours working. Mine ran well out of the box, so I consider myself lucky.

One of the main reasons I bought the G44 were all the glowing reviews of their reliability. I believe mine was more of an oddity or an anomaly. Glad yours runs great. 😎
