I’m happy with my 43x. I keep everything stock and carry an extra mag using a neomag. I carry iwb and barely notice it. Some people don’t like to 10 round mags. I personally am fine with it, plus I have my extra mag. The 15 round shield arms mags were enticing, but too many examples of failure to feed and rusting magazines.
For training, my 43X is a skinny version of my 17, so I see that as an advantage too.

I had the 509. Emphasis on had. Mags are expensive. Holster support is limited and the compact, even with the 12 rd mags, is the same size as a 19. Trigger on mine wasn’t impressive. All that being said, good optics mounting system.

I vote for the 43X, since I EDC a 48 MOS. I had a FN 509 and the firing pin broke just with dry firing with snap caps and laser bullet. The gun never got to the range and went back to the LGS. I lost confidence in FN. The gun did have nice ergonomics though.

That’s a known concern with some of these pistols. Some break while dry firing. Others when firing. Look at the brass. If you see the primer indented then evidence of the striker still in contact with the primer during extraction there will be too much stress on the striker.

FN has upgraded the striker on the FN Edge LS and there is also Apex Tactical.
