Several of my friends. who don't one, insist that the Glock 39 slide is the same width as the Model 30 or 21.....This view seems to be really pervasive... Glock lists the 39 slide width as 1.18 the same as the 26 or 27....Is this the correct info? The model 39 can NEVER be found anywhere and I want to be sure before ordering one in...THX

I don't own one, but in one of my Glock instruction manuals it says they are 1.18 like all the 9mm 40 357 and 380's not 1.27 like the 10mm and 45's excluding the 36 which is 1.13

The G37/38/39 are a bit fatter in the slide than the G17/19/22/23/24/26/27/31/32 and 33, even though it's listed otherwise above.

I've always read otherwise, but I'll eat my shorts if it's not true.

The 1.18" measurement is the frame width, the .45 GAP (G39) slides are about 1.13" wide, and the 9mm/.40 slides (G26) are about 1" wide.

Ok so now it's beginning to make sense.. What then is the SLIDE width on the 30? is itfatter than the 39 slide or about the same?

The 39 is a "45 width" slide (with beveling) on a "9mm width" frame.

Yup, the slides on models 20,21,29,30,37,38, and 39 are all the same width.

I held a G27 and G39 side by side on Friday night, and the 39 is a tad bit wider. Looking down at the top of both slides the extra width of the 39 is obvious, but not by much. Grip wise the 39 is a bit wider also, but again not by much either. I myself held a 27 prior to that, and thought my smaller hands would have trouble with the 39 considering it was larger caliber. That idea when out the window when I held them bother together, and realized their isn't much different between them.

Here are some pictures of the G26 vs. the G39.

The width of the slide is related to the diameter of the bullet.

    dave - there's something about a 45...

Glock.com lists width at the widest point. This can be misleading, especially when talking about the GAP Glocks. Widest point on a Glock is on the frame, so even though the slide is wider on a G39 than a G26, they have the same maximum width.

Butch does a great job pointing out the differences here.

The frame on the G39 is exactly the same as the G26. The top of the frame, where it meets the slide, is not the widest point. On the G39, the slide is wider than the G26, but tapered at the bottom so it meets the top of the frame.

The G39 adds an extended slide release standard, to give you better puchase on it due to the wider slide.
