Bought a used model 36 about a month ago and love the way it fits my hand. While loading a mag, I just noticed there are two open slots at the top of the magazine where it is inserted into the frame. Why is that? Is it because it is a single stack magazine? I thought it might have been defective or the previous owner may have damaged it, but photos on the internet look just like mine. Thank you for your comments.

I honestly can't give you a good answer.
I've had my G36 for 15 years. It always works, even with those slots at the top of the magazines.
It's a mystery to me.
