I was lucky enough to find a 30S yesterday locally- I think it had been on the shelf for 2 hours when I bought it. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but by the look and feel of the thing, I like it a lot. It's a winner.

I did a comparison of the 30s with my 29, 26 and 19 and put it up on youtube. If you're wondering how the 30s stacks up size wise, this might help you out if you're considering buying it.

Good Vid Man... Great comparison.... I have and love my G30SF, but this thickness reduction may make it obsolete!!

    Great video!

I am currently in a spot where I want the 30s but carry a 27. I will probably keep the 27 but might sell it to buy the 30s. Your video helped with the comparison to the 26.

Great Video. You referenced Hickok45. Here is his video of the G30S. Check out the gun in action.

Just got back from the range with my 30S shooting several brands of ammo. It shot amazingly, accurately, reliably, and did not eject BTF like the last G19 I had. I may be warming back up to Glocks again.

dryflyelk, thank you for making this video about the G30S.

The segment on fit with a variety of holsters is especially useful. Occasionally we come across a post by someone claiming that the G30S will fit any holster made for the G19/G23 because it fits their G19/G23 holster. Your video is most helpful to educate others and help them avoid making a costly mistake in ordering a G19/G23 holster assuming it will fit. Buyer beware.

Thank you so much for emphasizing in your video that the width dimension in Glock specs for a pistol is the widest part of the grip and is not the slide width contrary to the confusing diagrams on the Glock website. GT member Sonnytoo determined through careful measurements of several pistol models he owns that the Glock width spec correlates well with the grip width measured about 1/4" below the mag release button.

To fill in some data to accompany your excellent video, below are some measurements comparing the G30SF and G30S. The G30SF is the closest in comparison for someone contemplating buying a G30 vs G30S. The frame of the new G30S is a Gen3 G30SF frame (marked with SF on frame forward of slide lock).

    Glock 30SF

    Slide width: 1.126" ± 0.002"
    Grip width: 1.28"
    Unloaded weight: 23.81 oz.

    Glock 30S

    Slide width: 1.004" ± 0.002"
    Grip width: 1.28"
    Unloaded weight: 20.28 oz.

In summary, when communicating with others on the topic, it's close enough to say the G30S slide is 1/8" narrower than the G30 and the pistol weighs 3.5 oz. less (the difference in weight residing entirely in the G30S upper). With a loaded 10-rnd mag in both pistols, the overall weight of the G30S is about 10.5% less than the G30SF.

Another important fact that Greg Hickok demonstrates in his G30S video review is that G30 barrels (factory and aftermarket) will not fit in the G30S slide (view the segment in Hickok45 video). The wall thickness of the G30 barrel is greater than the G30S barrel. The G30S barrel is interchangeable with a G36 barrel.

Incidentally, the unloaded weight of the G30SF listed on the Glock website is not correct. The weight given above is taken from the Glock Annual.

    Great job on the video!

Good video! Very organized. I've been wanting to pick up a 30 but this is interesting.

Once they make it a Gen 4, I'll trade in my G27 for one.

Nice review thank you. I had a 30 not too long back that I traded off...liked it, but the thickness discouraged me from carry, and my 21 was better for range duty. But after shooting and reviewing the 30S at SHOT, it is certainly on my want list!

I have a Glock 36 that won't fit in some G19/G23 holsters. The reason is the width of the trigger guard, not the frame itself. It appeared that the trigger guard was the problem in the video, but I could be wrong. I suspect that is the issue rather than the rest of the frame.

You make a good point about the trigger guard sometimes being the hang-up on holster fit. The following excerpt from a post by GT member Sonnytoo that I archived from December, 2010 quantifies what you describe:

Nice videos fellas. Thanks for putting it together!

I'm waiting for the G30S to become CA legal. It's not on the Approved Handguns list yet. ARggh!!

Anyone know if the 30S has made it to the LE discount order sheet yet? If yes, what's the price? Same bracket as the 30?
I have a 30 but would love to see if the 30S carries better.

Yes it has. It is $464 at my LE dealer. Almost bought one and still thinking about it.
