I understand the Gen4 Glock 30 went to a dual recoil spring which the Gen 3 did not have. My question is whether the Gen3 recoil is that much more noticeable then the Gen4?
Also can the recoil spring be upgraded to a dual spring in the Gen3?

The subcompact pistols in all calibers had the dual springs right out of the gate, regardless of generation

The G30 series (2/3/SF/S/4) always had a dual recoil spring.
The current/latest RSA version is marked 0-9-1, and is part number 8063.
(also same RSA for the G29 series and G36)

Thanks L-2, so then I would surmise there should be no recoil difference between the Gen3/4.
I guess I would need to handle it and see if the finger grooves in the Gen3 fit my hand ok.

I have extra large hands and my G30.4 has a comfortable grip for me. My wife has small hands and says it comfortable as well with no back straps. If you're use to shooting Glock's with finger grooves it should feel okay. The G30 grip is definitely meatier than than my G19. And the grip texture between the Gen 3 and 4 has a lot to do with comfort and feel.

There's very little difference between the Gen 3 and 4, other than the grip texture and the size of the magazine release. The SF design of the Gen 3 and the Gen 4 are essentially the same size, including the placement of the finger grooves.

Are you saying the Gen4 is more comfortable?

I'd always bought Gen 3 Glocks and wasn't really interested in the Gen 4's. I was use to the texture on the 3's and that felt "right" to me. When I went looking for a 30,30sf,30s,36 I kept noticing the Gen 4 grip without a back strap felt smaller in my hand despite the fact there's only like a .01 of an inch difference between the Gen3 G30sf and the G30.4's. The only thing I can think of is the grip texture makes it feel that way to me. Comfortable is subjective. You'll need to hold them for yourself. I prefer the Gen 4 feel over the 3 in the G30. It's opened my mind back up to Gen 4's in other models as well.

Is that the non-SF G30 model?

Yes. I bought it brand new in 1999. Been carried almost every day since then. 20191203_192655.jpg

The only .45 I’ve shot that is softer is my G21. But the G30 is very close. The G30 is a real pleasure to shoot and carry.
