Thinking of buying one; just want a hand cannon without being as big as a desert eagle. I've always liked the idea of a 10mm auto. It seems like a lot of Firepower. Would like to here some owner testimonials? Would you consider recoil moderate, heavy, or abusive? Thanks.

I had one previous. At the time with fullpower loads, a recoil spring upgrade was recommended. I only got rid of it due to cost to shoot. If you reload ymmv. I liked the gun though. One handed shots from an unconventional (knocked down , injured etc.) might be difficult. Imo this is a training issue but again cost to shoot comes into play. All in all excellent 10mm though. Doubletap was the heavy hitter at the time along with ga arms. There might be more fullpower factory loads available now.

So most factory loads don't require spring upgrade? Also, so far, I haven't seen factory loads in any bullet weights other than 180gr. Are there lighter weights available in Factory loads?

doubletap recommended a wolff spring upgrade. I believe hornady has
155 and
175.

It's been retired now for a while. I'm getting to old to mess with it. But will never sell as it was a gift from my wife.

I love my 29 ! But the most accurate and fun shooter I ever had was the Gen 2 G21.... Wow! What a pleasure to reload 45 ACP/s and shoot that weapon. It's long gone now and my new great shooter is my G4 G42.... NICE!!!

I like my G29 a lot. I have never needed any spring upgrade to shoot the hottest loads, some of my reloads are hotter than the Underwood offerings. Recoil is substantial on my hottest loads, but nothing like a full house Magnum revolver or even snubby .357's. I use mine for woods carry mainly.

You can shoot standard 40S&W from your stock G29, so plinking and range fun is very reasonable. I have 10's of K rounds of 40 cased ammo through my 10mm Glocks.

I have the full size Glock 20 and I consider the recoil to be very moderate even with the heavy Doubletap, Underwood, and Buffalo Bore loads. Compared to a 44 magnum revolver the 10mm Glock is a *****cat.

With most standard loads in the G29 I would not imagine the recoil to be any big deal at all. Glocks, with their wide. hand-filling grips and their flexible polymer frames do a very good job of handling recoil and the G20, G21, G29 and G30 are the largest heaviest guns Glock makes.

I prefer the 20 to the 29 for woods carry because I see no need to carry concealed in the woods where I live. It just isn't unusual to see someone carrying a gun in the woods in Eastern Washington and it makes sense to do so and a gun is more accessable carried in a hip holster.

For concealed carry in urban areas I carry a G23 or smaller.

My Glock 20SF is one of my all time favorite handguns.

Wow, I bet the G20 handles the 10mm a little better than the G29, being a more full size pistol. I just need to handle to both and make a decision. I like 1911 style also but Glock beats them on capacity.

I had one, and while I'm a fan of the 10mm, I could never really warm up to the G29.

The G29 generally shot any given load around 100 fps slower than a full-sized 1911.

Recoil was just fine. No issues there. I mostly used mags with the basepad extension, so I could grip with all of my fingers. But it would occasionally pinch my pinkie in the gap between the grip and base pad - which is an issue I do not have with the G27. Probably has more to do with my hand size than anything.

My biggest issue was that I never found a comfortable way to carry the gun. A G20 was fine. And where the G20 is just as chunky as the G29, it's larger in height and length. I think it was a matter of spreading out the width over a wider area. Where the G29 is fat and short, so the bulk hits you all in one spot. Not sure if I'm making sesne or not.

I just couldn't find a comfortable way to carry it. A thinner full-sized, all steel 1911 was more comfortable for me. So that's what I stuck with.

Can't wait to handle one; I may wish to have the bigger G20. There's just no way to tell until I feel them in my hands. I have fairly big hands. I wear XL gloves. I really like the Sig p220 Hunter in kryptec camo but it's $1600 and it's only single stack capacity.

The G29 was my first carry gun. I gave up on lugging it around after a year because it is too wide and too heavy. I'm not a small guy at 6' 1" and 200 pounds, but this thing is always in the way and drags your pants. The short grip isn't nice either, not even with the pinky extension on the mags.

If I wanted to carry 10mm again, I would get a full size G20, that will offer me much better ergonomics, more rounds and faster follow-up shots while being the same width and being not much heavier.

The G20 is also a great basis for home defense.

The G29 is my under-the-pillow gun these days. I carry a G42, because that is the size and weight I can manage to carry all day long if needed. It will be most likely replaced with the new Sig P365 which offers 9mm +P and double the round count in a not much bigger package.

had the G29 MagNaPorted, personal preference, not necessary.
both do fine with OEM RSA.
these pistols recoil similarly to their 45 ACP cousins.
they required me to become better fundamentally, and focus on technique.
i became a better shooter.
they are my favorite handguns.

Ryan, you will be well served with either 29 or 20. From what you're describing I think you'll like the 20 better, though. You might even prefer the long slide G40. Welcome to GT!

I can see how it can force you to hone your fundamentals. Saw a guy shooting one on YouTube, a 29; at first he was just over POA and then he started drilling the plates.

My G29 was my carry gun when I liven in N Georgia. There bear were a minor concern but those dang feral hogs were everywhere. Great gun for hiking when you don't want to advertise but need the ability to deal with 2 and 4 legged threats.

BTW The cost of 10mm ammo was why i started reloading when I bought my new Bren 10.

I own a 20, 29 two 1911’s in 10mm and a Tanfoglio Witness match in 10.

I’ve been carrying the 29 for a few years as I committed to making it my carry gun. It takes commitment, no joke.
I load all my range ammo and load from mild to wild with bullet weights ranging from 135gr to 220gr. The 29 handles them all with aplomb.
My defense ammo is DT 165gr bonded and it clocks well over 1300 FPS from the little brick.
