I recently installed an 8lb NY trigger spring. The pistol dry-fires okay, however, the trigger does not rest fully to the rear when pulled and can be pulled further back. Is this a symptom that the spring is improperly installed or just the difference in the 8lb NY spring and the factory one?

That's normal. If you had an inspection plate to view the inside the gun you could see that the NY spring actually pushes up on the cruciform. That is why it does not stay all the way to the rear when the trigger is pulled like it does with the standard trigger spring.
