    Okay,

So a few months ago, I bought a 21sf with glock rail and ambi mag release. The mag release failed during a range trip while I was doing a tactical reload. The whole mag release fell out of one side. I was pissed to say the least.

I called Glock Inc. the following day telling them about my misfortune. They agreed to send me a call tag to ship back to Smyrna, GA for repairs. They had agreed to switch my frame for a standard magazine release and glock rail. They had given me a estimated ship date of 6 to 8 weeks (April 29th). Let me tell you..that is a longtime to wait for a gun that I just purchased.

Fast forward to today..FedEx showed up and I had missed them. I received a door tag to pick up my package at the distribution center. I was anxious to know what I had shipped to me, since I had no online orders..and I thought..nah..can't be that fast..

Took the box home, inspected it, and low and behold!!!!!

    MY GLOCK 21SF!!!!!!!!

I'm thrilled to have my Glock back!! So, patience is a virtue:cool:

I just wanted to share my joy with GT!!!

I had my ambi mag on my original 21SF frame doing the mag dump thing. Shoot a round, dump a mag, not cool...
Glock HQ is about 35 miles from my front door. Went over there about a month ago, walked out in 45 minutes, new 21SF frame. No more mag dumping.
    I'm a happy Glocker again!!!

Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal is with the ambi safety.

Let me fix that for you.... :wavey:

Are the SNs matching on these replacement frames or do they have some different sequencing to indicate that they are replacements (such as a 1 preceding the Prefix)?

I'm waiting for my G21SF which is getting a new frame due to the same problem. It has been about 4 seeks. I am having Glock put night sights on it.

It was a late night, thanks NJ for the correction. Unfortunately, it is a different SN that comes with the frame. I believe that the frames SN is the one that would be logged into LE's NCIC's.

What causes this failure, and what can you do to prevent it from happening, short of sending the gun back to Glock?

Bought my G21sf off Gunbroker about a year ago and wanted one with the Pic rail and ambi mag release. The one I bought was std Glock rail and std mag release. It was just too good to pass up $440 shipped and Blackhawk Serpa holster thrown in for free. I guess I was lucky the way it worked out because there hadn't been alot of talk about the problems with the ambi mag release at the time. Good for Glock making things good though!

It stands for Short Frame. I don't know why they say frame, the frame is the same, it's only the grip that has been made shorter. I guess it should really be called SG for short grip.

See this thread also: "SF" Don't get it?

Does that mean the pistol is not as tall?, or that the grip is less bulky?

Less bulky. A bit more than a tenth of an inch gone from the dead space that is backstrap. SF will not accept standard dust plugs.

It is good that Glock will replace the frame but if you like the pic rail you end up with a standard rail. They do not make a pic rail frame with a standard mag release to replace the pic rail with the ambi mag release.

I was not aware the pci railedG21 could not have a std mag release installed. Not like Glock to not be interchangable.

Same thing happened to my G21sf. they replaced the sf frame with a new one... and yes, different serial number that doesn't match the serial numbers on the barrel and frame.

IMO Glock should have replaced the entire gun.

How can you be sure that the G21SF you get is not one of bad mag release ones
is there a serial number stop point or such?

Apparently the only real way to get a G21SF that definitely won't have this problem is to get the version WITHOUT the ambidextrous magazine release (which means a Glock rail only). With any that have the ambi mag release, you are simply flipping a coin - some people don't have issues with their guns but as this post points out, some people do.
