I just bought a new 21 SF Gen3 yesterday. Is it normal to have to pull the slide back and press the slide release to get it to close on an empty mag? All my other Glocks are Gen4 40.'s and don't do this. You just press the slide release with an empty mag in. Thanks.

Let me get this straight. You have an empty magazine in the gun. You pull the slide to the rear and the slide automatically locks back. You must hit the "slide stop" to release the slide back into battery.
Yes this is a completely normal function

Ok, it does work as normal, just a lot stiffer slide release than I am use to from the 22,23 and 27. It closed easily on a full mag or no mag, but was very hard to release with an empty mag in. I have since put an extended relase on and it is much easier in all the above situations than the stock slide release was.

Yep, thats what the extended slide lock does.... makes it easy to drop the slide.
Glad to see you have it all under control!
