I have a new G21 that I have put approx 200 rounds through. When taking it apart to clean as you take the slide off the guide rod and spring is not in the lower cut out on the barrel and just falls out. When I reassemble it and put the rod in the correct cut out and reinstall slide, after racking the slide once you can see the rod drop down looking through the gap in the frame and slide. It functions fine, haven't had any failures of any kind. I am new to glocks and have a G19 also that does NOT do this. I called Glock and the tech said it was normal in G21, G30 and G29's. This seemed a little odd to me as the rod is almost dragging on the frame inside when cycling. Any info is appreciated. I attached 2 pics with the rod in both positions. Pics aren't very good but might give an idea of what's happening. First pic is rod in normal position, second is after racking the slide once. Thanks for any help.

The cut-out you are referring to is not designed to house the guide rod during normal operation. It is there solely to keep the guide rod in place while re-installing the slide onto the frame. Once the slide in place, the guide rod pushes agains the frame itself... in the u-shaped recess.

When you slide the slide back on the frame, the instant you start to feel "springy" resistance, the guide rod is pressing against the frame and is no longer touching the barrel.
