Very practical. Just know your ammo. If you're worried about over penetration use 135 gr. bullets. Double tap also makes a round that fires a 135 gr hollowpoint over a 90 gr. ball.

2. How often do you take to the range?
Not often as ammo is high.

3. What 10mm ammo brand do you use? Do you reload?
Whatever is cheapest for practice. Double tap for home defence/carry. Dont reload...yet.

4. What would be your main purpose in owning a 10mm Glock?
It's as much power as you can reasonably get into an automatic pistol [aside from .40 super] So I chose it for home defence as well as concealed carry.

Best gun Glock makes imo.
1) Don't care since I live in the country and no neighbors.

2) I just walk out my back door and I am at the range, so pretty often.

3) Reload

4) Home defense/Woods gun (6 inch barrel and 20 round mags).
1) It is extremely practical and versatile. With the amount of different load options it's a great choice for: hunting, home defense and target shooting.

2) I go to the range once a week with it but ammo is a bit pricey.

3) Same as jp3975's post. You can find great deals at a gun show too.

4) I wanted to own a hand cannon.
I think the 10mm is very practical as it is probably the most versatile caliber Glock offers. Handloading is obviously the way to realize the maximum versatility but even with factory ammo you can go from 40 S&W power to fully loaded 10mm that duplicate the ballistics of the 180g hunting loads for the 357 Magnum from a long barreled revolver.

The advantages of much greater capacity, 16 rounds vs 6 or 7, and a flatter, lighter package go without saying.

1. IMO it is very practical. It's a lot of power and you will not be under gunned in most situations.

2. How often do you take to the range?

About every other week

3. What 10mm ammo brand do you use? Do you reload?

Double Tap 135 grain and 165 grain for home defense and carry. I do not reload.

4. What would be your main purpose in owning a 10mm Glock? I have the G20 and the G29SF, I really like them both (the G20 is my favorite) and feel that if I am put into a situation where the use of a firearm is the only way - I feel the 10mm will end the situation in short order, a double tap plus one and i think it will be done, provided that I do my part.

I think that the Glock M20 is the most versatile model they make. You can shoot over a handful of different calibers with both the 20 and 21 top ends being able to be swapped out and using conversion barrels. I use mine for my all purpose sidearm, urban and wilderness.
I have been shooting American Eagle 180 FMJ's for practice since I got a decent deal on a case awhile ago and Double Tap makes a round for every occasion.
1. How practical is it? In terms of home defense-over penetration, distance, etc.
Practical? I would much rather overpenetrade and have a hole in the wall but a dead assailant, than shoot them with a .45 and have it bounce off.
2. How often do you take to the range?
I put a few mags thru it weekly most weeks, you can never have enough practice, and I have some leeway at work and shoot on my lunch breaks sometimes.
3. What 10mm ammo brand do you use? Do you reload?
I don't think I've shot factory ammo in over a year, yes I reload, a lot!
4. What would be your main purpose in owning a 10mm Glock?
Make neat little holes in the front of things, and big giant holes on the other side. I'm gonna try my damndest to get a deer this year with mine, almost got a coyote last year but even with how flat shooting it is I did'nt have the skill required to make a 200 yard shot with it.

......
Remember, if you don't reload and 10mm is too costly, for target shooting you can get a 10-40 conversion barrel and shoot .40 S&W.
Over penetration shouldn't be a concern. Most typical 10mm ammo, like Federal, is FBI lite and has .40 S&W ballistics.
The 10mm really shines with a 6" barrel........

Versatile round for hunting, self-defense, and flat shooting for target. I'd say pretty practical. HD? Especially with Doubletap Equalizer rounds :-D
2. How often do you take to the range?
How often do I shoot it? Got a 22lr kit for it so its guaranteed use every trip to the range.
3. What 10mm ammo brand do you use? Do you reload?
Reloads from the Gun shows, HSM, I want to get into reloading ASAP.
4. What would be your main purpose in owning a 10mm Glock?
Wanted a reliable big bore pistol that was easy to shoot and high capacity magazines. The 20sf fit that to the bill. The 21sf works too, but I like the recoil pulse on the 10mm and the modular ability to switch down to 40 or 357sig with a simple change of a barrel.

None of us are gonna say anything bad about the glock 20 and the 10mm. We're glocktalkers. I always wonder about people who complain about shooting 10mm being too expensive... SHOOTING in general is expensive.
Thanks!!!

It's practical. If you don't mind the hugeness of the grip it's not a bad pistol.

2. How often do you take to the range?
Seldom. I took mine a week or so ago since I had some 10mm ammo I hadn't burnt up. Recoil is not an issue, it shoots easily even with warm loads.

3. What 10mm ammo brand do you use? Do you reload?
Reload. I have shot DT, but I didn't get very close to advertised velocity out of my G20. Brass is expensive and unless you can find a lot of it for free (like .40 S&W), then it becomes somewhat of an issue.

4. What would be your main purpose in owning a 10mm Glock?
Being able to throw the same weight bullet maybe 150 fps faster. When the .40 can go 200 fps faster than factory .40 ammo, adding an additional 150 fps could compromise performance somewhat, depending on bullet used. I can get plenty good enough performance out of the .40 while getting loads of brass initially free. I've debated getting rid of the G20, but it's long since paid for and generally getting rid of a gun is something most will regret at some point down the road.

The 10mm is a good cartridge. Way too over-hyped on this board, but still good. It's got an edge over the .40, but it isn't huge. I personally think it shines brightest with heavy weight bullets. If you can afford it, it's not bad, not great, but not bad. I like mine but if I had to get rid of it I wouldn't lose any sleep. I'm fine as is with the .40 and .45 and the way I see it, is that if either one of those don't get the job done, neither will the 10mm.

Never shot anything inside my house, but I love my 20. It is comfortable to shoot but I do have big hands.

2. How often do you take to the range?

Once every couple of weeks, generally burn 200-300 rounds.

3. What 10mm ammo brand do you use? Do you reload?

If I shot it, I made it first. I mostly shoot copper plated 180 grain bullets, because they're cheap.

4. What would be your main purpose in owning a 10mm Glock?

I live in Canada so my purpose is target practise and nothing else. I own a 10mm because I get bored easily and waiting for .40S&W rounds to hit the target was annoying. I would never, ever use a gun to defend myself. I would just hand the criminal a flower and petition for a basketball court to be built in their neighbourhood at my expense.

I love the G20...every time I take it to the range people want to shoot it thinking it will be a recoil monster, but then they are amazed at how manageable it is. Even new shooters have gotten good groups with it. It is fairly reliable but does require a firmer grip than a europellet, for sure. If you do not grip it firmly it will sometimes fail to return to battery. If I am firing slowly this never happens, but when I am ripping through a fast drill I have done it once or twice - in fact the other night I had an FTF at the end of the night which I believe was related to fatigue.

For the first 200 rounds it was fairly jammy but it smoothed out. I believe that when I get around 5000 rounds through the thing I'll be pretty confident about when it will jam. At the moment I believe it's just me, but I am not sure.

It did jam on another shooter - an excellent shooter in fact - Friday night but he is used to shooting europellets and may not have had his wrists locked up tight enough. I am not sure. He is a better shooter than I am though and I was surprised to see the FTF.

Anyway on the whole it is a very good gun.

"I would never, ever use a gun to defend myself. I would just hand the criminal a flower and petition for a basketball court to be built in their neighbourhood at my expense."

That was friggen hillarious! LOL :)
I'm more in favor of a 12 gauge loaded with "non-lethal" bean bag rounds to make a point, but the flower pot and basketball court is a solution less fraught with reprecussions.....unless you get beat to death with the flower pot! LOL.
Oh, ahem........sorry, yep 10MM's are cool......!
1. Very versatile and, therefore, very practical. I would be more worried about missing the target than over-penetration. My HD load is a handloaded 135 gr Nosler JHP @ 1690 fps

2. Frequently. Since I hand load, my practice rounds cost only about 16 cents each (compare that to the retail price - YIKES). I also shoot my G20 in IDPA competitions.

3. No factory ammo. Reloaded and hand loaded ammo. My practice loads are Berry's MFG 180gr FP plated. I also load XTPs, Gold Dots, Noslers, and a WFNGC hard cast bullet for different applications.

4. I am not one to own each caliber so I kind of needed to settle on a sort of do-it-all auto loader. I own a G20 because:
1) Glock's are inherently reliable. I've had precisely one jam. It was a failure-to-feed. I'm pretty sure that it was my fault due to limp-wristing.
2) the 10mm auto is high-performing with ballistics that approach .41 magnum territory AND has a 15 round mag capacity
3) the cartridge if very versatile (135 gr to 230 gr and everything in between
4) it is suitable for backwoods, HD, and personal protection
5) for the performance, recoil is manageable.
6) It fits me and feels very natural to shoot

I would recommend the G20 for the reasons I mentioned. However, the 10mm auto is a great candidate for re-loading because factory ammo tends to be neutered (except Buffalo Bore and Double Tap) and EXPENSIVE!
