My brother wants to get a Glock 19 as what will probably turn out to be his only weapon. He wants to use it for carry and home defense. How does the 19 stack up as a carry weapon?

Decent, some people complain that it's too large.
Some people don't have a problem with it.
A lot of it will depend on what type of clothing he wears.
If he wears coats then he'll definitely be good to go.

I carry either a G19 or G26 depending on the weather, how I dress, and where I'm going. I also carry a spare G19 mag in a utility knife pouch with either gun. They both feel good in a Comp-Tac M-Tac slide. The G26 is a liitle more comfortable but they both carry well. Both are great guns.

The G19 can be concealed in nearly all normally worn garments with the correct choice of gun belt and holster. It will not be totally discrete but 99% of people won't notice. It is one of the best multi purpose handguns on the market. You can't go wrong with it.

Coincidental, my brother a Glock hater nevertheless, to entice him, I gave him my G19 and likes it (who would not like a free gun). Gave to him for multipurpose. I did not see right that my brother a gun lover(but broke as a joke) did not have anything to show for to protect self and family.

The G19 will always be a great choice for general use & CCW. It just depends on how committed your brother is to finding the right belt/holster/cover garment combo that will make the most difference in comfortably carrying & concealing a G19.

It's a great CC gun. I have one on as I type in a Crossbreed Supertuck and it hides well. The G19 is one of my favorite CC guns in my rotation of CC guns.

It's just about the most perfect all-around carry, home defense, range, competition, etc., gun on the market. Some other guns are easier to carry, but too small to shoot well or use for non-CCW purposes. others are good for the range and home defense, but too big to carry. The Glock 19 is a great all-purpopse gun - just big enough and just small enough. For myself, I might get a 23, but for a new shooter and as an only gun, 9mm would be a better choice, so get the 19.

The G19 is probably the best all-around gun available. If someone were take a poll, it would probably win hands-down (at least among Glock Owners).

If he will only have one gun, I couldn't really recommend anything outside of a Glock 19

I can CCW mine all year. In fact we went walking last night for about an hour (gym shorts and a t-shirt) and mine went along with me

Per your brother's plan, the G19 will serve him well in all aspects.

If I could only have one handgun, it would be the 19. If I could only have one *carry* handgun, I would also consider the 26.

The 19 is definitely plenty carryable, but if you're talking all day/every day, and have environmental and clothing restrictions, the 26 starts looking good.

So my advice would be to start with the 19, and plan on taking it to the grave. If the desire for a smaller, lighter carry gun is strong enough, then try the 26 as a suppliment.

I love my Glock 19 and could carry in in my CrossBreed, but since I found that I shoot the G26 better (and it is smaller too), I end up carrying my G26. I use the wonderful G19 for home defense and occasional practice at the range.

Out of curiosity, what did you use to carry it with? Holster?

    Thx!

Strapped a belly band around my lower rib cage area. G19 in the holster spot, car keys in the spare mag spot, and folded my wallet over the band itself. Works like a charm :)

Sounds good!! I've tried to figure something out for my relaxed summer wear. I carry a 26 &/or 32 and haven't found anything that has really worked for me. But I''ll check out what you've done!

    Thanks for the info.
