I am in the process of selling 1 more handgun and getting a Glock to replace it. I have already sold one and I just recently bought a Glock 21 gen 4 to replace it but I haven't had a chance to fire yet. Then I want to purchase the Glock 17. This will hopefully allow me to transition back and forth between the G21 and G17 easily, in which most of my shooting will be done with the G17 since it will be cheaper to shoot.

Seems like there are no issues with the G21 gen 4's but when you get into the G17 & G19 gen 4's, it seems like a hornet's nest has been knocked out of a tree.

I thought I would be safe going with the G17 gen 3 but there seems like there are problems there also - at least with the most recent ones manufactured. Are there certain serial numbers in the G17 gen3 that would be reliable? It seems like it is a crap shoot on the 9mm platform.

Go with grip size.....if the G21 feels good in your hand, I would expect the Gen3 G17 to be more to your liking.

Depends I'd say, do you like the newer texture? Do you need the backstraps?

How can you tell an older gen 3?

Are the gen 4's grip smaller?

I don't need the backstraps on the G21 gen 4 and the texture feels fine to me in the gen 4 and gen 3.

i hope im allowed to post here, i wasnt even able to post in the intro forum!

anyways, i just bought G17 gen4 and I really hope I didn't make a mistake. I honestly didnt do too much research on the difference in generations. But i was definitely intrigued by the adjustable grip size. Great me (big) and my gf (tiny)...

but unfortunately I didnt look into reviews until AFTER the purchase, which is something I always do especially with such an expensive purchase. I went with Glock because of the name and quality.

I just don't want to regret getting a Gen4 if the Gen3 is better.

The Gen 3 G17 feels like the Gen 4 G17 with the medium backstrap. In my opinion, if you like the G21 Gen 4 with no backstrap, You'll probably like the G17 Gen 3.

I would fire or at least grip the Gen 4 and Gen 3, The grips, texture and mag release is different. As for the reliability, some Gen 4's had had issue but its seems as if there have been less and less new Gen 4 9mm owners posting issues and Glock for the most part (not completely) is fixing the issue. If you get a Gen 4 and have an issue then send it back to Glock and you should be fine.

G17 Gen4 NO question. I own one and I have fired plenty of 9mm's. Grip, Trigger, Mag release, Texture, Recoil all beat out what I have shot. My 2 cents...
