There is no pin on the extension insert. It’s flat as you can see in my picture. The insert is held in place with some slots and the base plate has the grooves that slide into the slots.

When I added the extension I used the 10 coil spring and it worked fine but it was way too weak. So I bought a bunch of the 11 coil springs. The G19x comes with the 11 coil springs so that’s what Glock recommends.

I ended up changing the magazine spring on my 19 Gen5 mags to the 10 coil since I had a few instances of the slide not locking with the standard spring with the +2 bases. Even with the 10 coil in a 19 length magazine I can still fit the full 17 rounds in. I leave my mags loaded, since they are useless otherwise, in and with the pistol.

I looked on the Glock website and the only mag springs for the 9mm mags (not 10rd mags) they offer is 9 and 10 coil. If OP is using an 11 coil, is that an aftermarket spring?

I found that installing the +2 base and insert, the best way to make it lock properly in place was to hold the insert flush with the bottom of the mag, slide the base on and as soon as you get to the point you run out of space to hold the insert with your thumb, let go and push the base on quickly at the same time and it would snap into place. Verify by making sure the insert is flush with the bottom of the hole in the base, like in the photos above.

Sometimes, when I was using a different installation method and the insert did not lock into place, I could get the insert to snap in place by using the Glock tool and pushing on it through the hole but most of the time it didn't and I just removed the base and started again. To remove the +2 bases easier, push the Glock tool in the hole and push the insert in as far as the tool will go. Then firmly grip the magazine and pull the Glock tool pulling the base off.

I believe the 11 coil springs are factory Glock. This is from GT Distributors. I bought my 11 coil from them-

    Type 3

    9mm G17,G18,G19X,G34 19rd (17rd mag with 7151 Floorplates & 7165 insert) 11 coil spring
    .40, .45GAP, G22,G31,G35,G37 11 coil spring (must be used with Tac-Lights)

Yes, I was advised by some here to get the 1 coil spring. It is actually originally for other caliber mags besides 9mm. This seems to be a common use for that spring because places sell it together with the +2 extensions.

I called Glock directly - and asked if I could order that 11 coil mag spring. Someone on this forum even gave me the part # and said I had to call to get it...

I did call and spoke to someone. I stated that this 11 coil spring was not on their website. The operator told me that they had recently sent a list of things that needed to be fixed on the website - over to the people who run the website. That spring not being on the site is 1 thing to be fixed

Then, I was told that the wait on Glock parts from Glock - from order date to actual shipping (directly from Glock) was over 90 days. So, I ordered the parts somewhere else, as I did not want to wait 3+ months for Glock to ship the parts. I even started a thread about these extensions before, and I discussed what Glock told me...

Anyway - that 11 coil spring is NOT on the Glock website, and they were aware of it. But, it is a Glock part.

Ok, I took a photo of mine - the inside piece seems to sit in that round hole as the pics on page 1:

Well, for now, 18 rounds is all I can put in either.

    But thanks!

    Springs will loosen up.

10 coils will work for awhile, but I don't want to bet my life on them.

I prefer to do the recommended 11 coil spring.

If someone can put 20 in it, I'd suggest you replace your springs.

That’s weird. I put an extension on a 17 round mag but I have never loaded it up with 19 rounds as I haven’t used that mag yet. So I just went and loaded it up with19 rounds with no problems.

Also, I use the Glock loading tool.

Fyi the mag springs wear in thru being loaded and unloaded. Leaving the mag fully loaded is far less wear. So using the mags is the answer.

If you don’t have a Glock tool, you can use a small punch or screwdriver.
