    CA Glockers and CA Dealers,

Will the Glock 17 Gen4 be considered as a Glock 17 or a totally different firearm that is currently NOT approved on the CA DOJ Approved Handgun Roster?

Has anyone in CA purchased a Glock 17 Gen4 or Glock 22 Gen4?

    Thanks!

It's a "new" gun and will not get on the approved list as is.

In order to be considered for testing to be listed, the Gen4 Glocks will need a magazine disconnect and a CA DOJ chamber load indicator [PC 12126(b)(5)].

Glock has been using an exemption [PC 12131.5] to get the SF* and RTF2 Glocks on the approved list. But, that exemption will not work for the Gen4 Glocks, because the Gen4 Glocks have too many internal changes to qualify for the exemption.

*The SF Glocks with the ambi-mag release are not on the approved list, because the ambi-mag release system is an internal change that prevented them from qualifying for the exemption.

    Penal Code 12126
As used in this chapter, "unsafe handgun" means any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person, as defined in subdivision (a) of Section 12001, for which any of the following is true:
    (b) For a pistol:
    (5) Commencing January 1, 2007, for all center-fire semiautomatic pistols that are not already listed on the roster pursuant to Section 12131, it does not have both a chamber load indicator and if it has a detachable magazine, a magazine disconnect mechanism.
    (c) As used in this section, a "chamber load indicator" means a device that plainly indicates that a cartridge is in the firing chamber. A device satisfies this definition if it is readily visible, has incorporated or adjacent explanatory text or graphics, or both, and is designed and intended to indicate to a reasonably foreseeable adult user of the pistol, without requiring the user to refer to a user's manual or any other resource other than the pistol itself, whether a cartridge is in the firing chamber.
    (d) As used in this section, a "magazine disconnect mechanism" means a mechanism that prevents a semiautomatic pistol that has a detachable magazine from operating to strike the primer of ammunition in the firing chamber when a detachable magazine is not inserted in the semiautomatic pistol.

    Penal Code 12131.5
    (a) A firearm shall be deemed to satisfy the requirements of subdivision (a) of Section 12131 if another firearm made by the same manufacturer is already listed and the unlisted firearm differs from the listed firearm only in one or more of the following features:
    (1) Finish, including, but not limited to, bluing, chrome-plating, oiling, or engraving.
    (2) The material from which the grips are made.
    (3) The shape or texture of the grips, so long as the difference in grip shape or texture does not in any way alter the dimensions, material, linkage, or functioning of the magazine well, the barrel, the chamber, or any of the components of the firing mechanism of the firearm.
    (4) Any other purely cosmetic feature that does not in any way alter the dimensions, material, linkage, or functioning of the magazine well, the barrel, the chamber, or any of the components of the firing mechanism of the firearm.
    (b) Any manufacturer seeking to have a firearm listed under this section shall provide to the Department of Justice all of the following:
    (1) The model designation of the listed firearm.
    (2) The model designation of each firearm that the manufacturer seeks to have listed under this section.
    (3) A statement, under oath, that each unlisted firearm for which listing is sought differs from the listed firearm only in one or more of the ways identified in subdivision (a) and is in all other respects identical to the listed firearm.
    (c) The department may, in its discretion and at any time, require a manufacturer to provide to the department any model for which listing is sought under this section, to determine whether the model complies with the requirements of this section.

You get what you vote for. I only wish that CA residents would stay in CA and not come to my State, like the illegals, and try to change it to their way. Their way does not work that is why they come here. Stay home and fix you own problems.

I live in CA. That whole Safe list is bullcrap. They don't even test the gun. They just want money from the gun companies to be put on the list. Besides a 10 round mag, and no ambidextrous features, there is no change to the gun. I wish someone sued the state saying its unconstitutional.

I would love to be part of a class-action lawsuit against the state for infringement upon the 2nd.

I was hoping Calguns.net or the NRA-ILA would do something, along with a class-action lawsuit from the people of CA. I think most people is waiting for the Chicago case to be figured out.

I'm hoping the NRA-ILA would spearhead a lawsuit.

I just joined the NRA. It just feels right...

Concur, but we would need Senators that are fervent members of the NRA to even come close. I think the current set forgot what happened when the Nazis established Gun Control in 1938.

You must not like your new neighbors. But I don't blame you, before you know it Texas will start charging income tax. Don't mess with Texas.

Considered it, then realized it would take a long roll of red tape (stamps, fees, emails, phone calls, redirects, reach-arounds, acts of God, etc.) and by the time I got an answer from CA DOJ, Glock would be teasing us with their Gen7 line.

Besides isn't this what this Glock Forum is for -to ask fellow Glockers who might already have the information? If it wasn't for them, then I might as well move to Texas and take the easy way out!

It makes the idiot politicians sleep better at night in their 3 million dollar mansion who know absolutely nothing about guns and personal safety.

As far as they're concerned, an AK and a Glock are one and the same.
