And no, it's nothing to do with Hogg and Baldy. I'm talking about the plant.

There's an outdoors expert on YouTube whom I follow with a channel called "AlfieAesthetics". I love his videos; he does one every few months or so. He talks about everything from outdoor survival, to fire building and plant identity. All with his own British brand of humor. Smart guy.

Recently, he took up the topic of Giant Hogweed in the UK. To be honest, I'm not sure if Giant Hogweed is found here in the US, but if it is, then this video would probably be of benefit to some of our more outdoorsy members.

The first 18 minutes or so of this video talks about this dangerous plant. He talks about the weed itself, as well as how the burns from the sap work, and how you can treat yourself if you come into contact with the sap.

Man....my Boyscout handbook never covered that SOB. :faint:

I looked that up because I think I've seen it growing along side the road in the Ozarks and it says its prevalent throughout the US.

Pigweed, unfortunately, is becoming more and more common in the southern U.S. It's resistant to many herbicides. I've heard it called many things, but never Giant Hogweed. I don't think the two plants are the same. That's an interesting video.

Yeah, I decided to do a quick Google search myself. It's definitely here in the US. Nasty stuff.

You know what they say......kill it with fire.

....just don't breath in the smoke.

People have died from inhaling smoke from burning oleander and poison oak.

I never heard of it before, so I looked it up. For once there is something nasty that I don't have to worry about in Florida LOL.

Giant hogweed, an enormous member of the carrot family Apiaceae, was brought to the
United States as anornamental and as a source for the anise-scented spice golpar, which is used in Iranian cooking.
It is now designated as a federal noxious weed.
The sap of giant hogweed makes human skin sensitive to ultraviolet light, resulting in severe burns
and blisters. Contact with the eyes can cause permanent blindness.

This must be why I don't see any Iranian restaurants around here.
