Was leading a team meeting at work and used an image from the Far Side in one of my slides.

I had a girl from my team yell out that it was offensive.

I will post the image and then let you try and figure out why she was offended.

I've had subordinates get offended and write me up when I've told them to stop goofing off and get to work.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

Because she lives to find reasons to be offended?

Seriously, I'd have to tell her to STFU and fix me a sandwich.

I'm not sure if she's gone to HR yet or not, but I'm expecting it...

Tread carefully. All it takes is three folks like that and in an instant you are out of a job.

Now how much suck on a scale of 1 >100 would unemployed be?

Like she was offended because she has done the very same thing in front of witnesses and got tore up for it.

I thought it was okay to make fun of the gifted.

Now, if the sign said, "Special Ed" I'd expect trouble from the peanut gallery.

    Here's my take...

I've seen this Far Side panel before... As the image loaded I recalled it in my head and the association I made was of some remedial school, or school for "retards."

Then the image loaded fully, and it was like, "oh yea, that's why the joke is funny. Because its a joke about smart people lacking common sense. Not a joke about "retards."

Anyway, I think she probably made the first association and that was the end of the thought process. I bet if you had her look at it more carefully she might not find it offensive.

    Just my hypothesis.

My guess is she doesn't know the difference between special needs children and gifted children.

Don't know how your HR dept is but maybe you could go to them, explain and show them the slide and get their opinion on it and explain you in no way meant to offend anyone, might beat her to the punch.

Sounds likes that person watches too much BIG media and wants to participate, Joseph Goebbels would be proud.

Bingo, the kid in the slide is "gifted" at pushing. It's NOTHING beyond that.

And FWIW, that is my favorite Far Side slide.

Maybe he was tired after walking up the steps, and was tired, and leaned against the door for support :dunno:
