Just bought a Gerber Camp Ax at Cabelas. Man am I impressed with this little thing. I had to clear some small scrub trees around a clearing. First thing I did when I pulled it out of the package was to tune the edge with a fine hone. Razor sharp!!!

I worked with it just over an hour and didn't feel fatigued much at all. By the end I felt my grip strength dying out a bit so I figured I had better stop. I found some hard spots in the ground here and there when I missed and ended up putting a couple small knicks in the edge. :crying: I think it might benefit from a little higher quality steel but it worked great!

Edit: It has the Fiskers name on the plastic handle near the head too.

Now that I have a little camp ax, I am thinking I should get a Gransfors Bruks splitting maul.

That's a good ax. I was gonna get one a few years ago, but got something else. My old ax, the blade broke... now i use the flat side for a hammer.. tent pegs, smack the back of my good ax with it to cut wood, etc..

Extreme fuctionality, buddy. Considering it's plastic, and I had time to kill... why not? This is my Mall Ninja Camp Hatchet... there are many like it... but this one is MINE!!! For now...

The Gerbers are made by Fiskars....

The Dear Wife handed me a big box a week ago. She had bought me the Fiskars set.

1 Fiskars Hatchet with 14-Inch Handle and #7/8 Head #7850"

    2 Fiskars 8-Inch Hatchet #7855"

3 Fiskars 7858 Pro Chopping Axe

They are great for the money and have a good warranty. They are made in Finland, not China.
