Gen4 Grip too rough?

I own a Gen3 G30SF and Gen4 G26. I bought the G26 for my wife and opted for the Gen4 to facilitate the grip of her smaller hands. I like that little G26 so much I was thinking of getting a 2nd one. However, I find the Gen4 grip to be TOO ROUGH and am strongly considering purchaing a Gen3 G26. Other than the smaller grip and the larger magazine release (both of which are not issues for me as my hands are larger than hers) I see no real advantage of the Gen4 vs. the Gen3 for the sub-compact platforms. There is not much need for an agressive grip on a 9mm and the finger grooves alone are sufficient to assure the weapon doesn't fly out of one's hands.

Does anyone else find the Gen4 grip to be too rough? I can't even imagine what the RTF2 frames felt like.

I personally like the texture. I have never done manual labor (other than house type stuff) and I wear a suit and work in an office now. The texture doesn't bother me one bit. It is aggressive though and I can see how it would be too much. Have you ever thought about taking a little sandpaper and knocking the pyramids down a bit?

Nope, I feel like the Gen4 texture is not rough enough. Once your hands get wet those flat topped squares don't do much of anything.

I make a living with my hands. I am a huge fan of the rtf2 frames. I have several.

I maybe even a bigger fan of the Gen4 due to the whole package including the grip texture.

Is it too rough for your wife's hands or just yours?

the gen4 texture isn't rough enough in my opinion, especially for the 'snappy recoil' calibers like 9mm. It is supposedly a compromise between the older textures and the rtf ones. When practicing with my gen4 g17 for this year's ipsc, i'm running into the same problem as i did my older pistol (sti) that i find it shifting enough that i have to readjust my grip. Ironically i don't with my checkered grip 1911.

The RTF2 was much rougher, the Gen 4 grip has a good middle ground feel from the regular Gen 3 grip and the RTF2.

I don't really care for the gen.4's grip texture so I keep a bike innertube on my G22. I do like the larger magazine release though.

I handled a Gen 4 recently, and I thought the grip wasn't grippy enough. It felt a little slick to me. I'll stick with the rtf2's.

I find the G4 grip to be perfect.

Actually I wish my G36 was a gen4. I like the texture so I guess I will be adding either Talon grips or Traction grips.

Lol.... I guess I'm a puss. Maybe I'm just too used to the feel of the Gen3 grips, which by comparison, make the Gen4 texture feel tortuous.

It is quite clear that I'm in the minority on this one! Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm still going to get the 2nd G26 in Gen3 as I've grown accustomed to the smoother feel.

9mm is not snappy. But I agree with the gen4 texture not being tacky enough.

my g19g4 texture is a little rough thru 300+ rounds but generally fine, my g26g4 is rough after 100 rds, plus the bottom of the trigger guard hurts the hell out of my middle finger.
