I was able to pick up a NIB Gen2 17, made in June 1992. I’m tempted to carry it everyday instead of my Gen5 17. I’m not sure if it will increase in value soon or if it will take years. Thoughts?

No shortage of nice Gen 2 17's that are used. Keep the NIB specimen and pick up a used one for fun.

A NIB sample will increase in value much more in value and much quicker than a carried and fired sample.

Tough call. You’re very lucky, and you should never sell it, so I say use it, but take care of it, and give it to a grandson one day.

In June you paid how much for Gen 2 G17?
    $500? $700?
In 10 years it will be worth $510 or $710
In 50 years it might be worth something, but you’ll be dead, so shoot it

Your estimation of what an increase of value is would be relative to what you paid and what you feel is an amount over that would make it worth it to keep.
Asking guys in this thread area will almost certainly encourage you to keep it in the same condition you bought it. That’s because we love collecting these and want to maximize that effort by not shooting them.
Other parts of this forum will offer quite a contrast in views. Such as there is no such thing as a collectible Glock. Who would do that. You can buy several new ones for what we will pay for a old one.
A Gen 2 will not do anything more then what you have currently. I have a gen 1 with the stock barrel shoots basket ball sized groups at 25 from benched. Horrible. I can’t imagine a gen 2 being much better.
But a Gen 5? With all its newness and hotness! I want to think that should shoot better.

Post recall has no collector value. No black internals, weekend sights etc. to the right person, it’s worth more than a gen5, and maybe more one day, but there were a lot made, and many more sitting in safes.

I just got a 94, in lnib, and I could sell all my other guns and proudly carry that gun for life.

But I own seven other glocks, so it will get pampered along with the perfect 19 I found.

Your NIB Gen 2 17 while not outrageous in value today is not very common in nib condition today. I personally would clean it and put it up. In my neck of the woods you can find used shooter condition glock gen 2 17 models for 350-400.00 i would find one of those to carry if your set on a gen 2 gun. Its only original once. Ya its no 1st gen gun. But to me the gen 2 guns are the best of the best.

I decided to shoot it and the first thing I did was the dot torture drill. I was very impressed. The trigger was 10x better than the Gen 5 I was carrying. [IMG]

Shoot the hell out of it, it isn't a NIB Gen 1.

    The gen 2 , 17 has a great trigger. Much better than my gen 2 , 19’s.

oddly, my first had a + connector and that was the only Glock i could shoot holes, on top of holes with. I think because the other springs were well worn.

Dot torture is shot close. Like real close.
Not much of a test of inherent accuracy of a handgun but more of the shooter.
If I used that as a scale of what to carry then a Hi-Point and most other in-expensive handgun would qualify.

I found a very nice Gen2 17 at a pawn shop a couple years ago and snagged it right up. About a year afterward I came across a NIB Gen2 17 and couldn’t resist. It’s still NIB and will remain that way as long as I own it. It’s just cool to see a brand stinking new 25 year old Glock.

    544F9D2C-77E7-4E38-B478-A14ABC740BBF.jpeg Very nice.

I grabbed this last week. Came with a pre ban metal lined mag too. Probably the best in hand feeling Glock I’ve ever held. I will buy more and trade away my gen 4’s.
