The Gen 5's are listed with an overall width of 34mm, a 4mm increase over the previous generations. Is that increase due strictly to the ambidextrous slide release or is the frame or slide actually slightly thicker?
I think you guys are onto something with the flared magazine well. Just taking a ruler and crudely measuring the slide lever on my Gen 4 19, the lever itself and the flared protrusion under it, do not stuck out even a full millimeter from the frame. However, looking at the 360-degree picture of the Gen 5 on Glock's website, it's pretty clear that the widest part of the gun is the flared magazine well. I'm glad, because that does not add anything to IWB carry.
