I'm with you on this. the wider slide is a downer. if you're going to carry a something as wide as the 10mm, then why not just carry 10mm?

the appeal of the G23 was that it is as light and slim as a G19. this new Gen5 will not be.

The slide is 2mm wider than the Gen4, and 1mm thinner than the 10mm, but the frame is the same as the Gen5 9MM. I like the thinner grip and frame of the 40S&W better than the 10mm.

Who is to say. They may make the 10mm frame the same as the .40 or maybe in between the G20.4 and G22.5.

The Gen5 40S&W frame will be the same length and width as the Gen5 9mm. The Gen5 G22 has a frame width at the magazine chute at 1.32 inches, while the Gen5 G17 is 1.34 inches. Everything else is the same on the frame.

You can't get here from there!
I haven't owned my G30S for very long but it's a great carry .45 that would only be better in Gen5 format.

I got my Gen3 G-23, a Police Trade in off GB (don't ask $), and while it needs some cosmetic help, (touch up blue and the sight(s) refreshed, I fired it over the weekend and man am I happy with it.

Any update on the release date of Gen 5 .40s?

I'm really curious if the frames are still the same as 9mm Gen 5 or if they have indeed been reinforced.

At the same time, I'm thinking that perhaps the earlier G23, G27, G32 and G33 barrels would interchange also.

Does anyone know if the locking blocks are the same as Gen 4?

I'm out. Part of the reason I carry a 23 is that everyone makes holsters for them (G19 holsters). given the decline in 40 popularity, and, if they will no longer fit in a G19 holster, it might be slim pickens for off the shelf (and cheap) holsters.

The frame, which is the widest part of the gun, will be the same width as Gen 5 9mm guns. The slide, although 2mm wider is still narrower than the frame. I personally, don't see an issue with concealment.

Will it require a new holster? Possibly, all my Glocks fit in two Vedder LightTucks, 1 with and 1 without a light. The Gen 5 G23 could fit into my LightTucks with some heat gun work, but then they would be loose on my G45, G19 and G26. Leather holsters would probably handle both guns.

I believe Vedder is ready for the Gen 5 .40 release, if not I would try a horsehide backed Comfort Tuck and warm up the heat gun like I did with the 1911 single stack LightTuck to widen it for my double stack frame.

Or, I may use my GSSF coupon on a Gen 5 G22, I don't have a full size Glock yet.

Which would also stress the frame less.

I was never a fan of FS until I bought a Glock that had them. I had other guns with them but never really used them much, They were handy on the G19 tho. Glock is a little late to the "fad"..... 20+ years late.... I recon they finally gave in due to competition, and requests from potential customers.

I didn't realize how much I liked them on my G45, until I got my Gen 4 23.

this right here would be interesting. and I think it could be done... it would surely be easier than having 9MM slides, 10MM/45ACP slides and .40/.357sig slides
we're talking literally millimeters here. if they bulked up .40 by 2, I don't think 10MM will suffer too much losing 1.

as another has said I do not think GAP is going forward with this transition. G37 was the only to even get to Gen 4. Holding my breath for .357sig but I suspect Gen 5 really will be the 9's, this .40 roll out, and maybe next summer, 10s and 45s at the same time.

If they roll out a G23.5 sized 10/45 I'll be all over it. I've been waiting for a true mid-size in 10mm/45acp from Glock for decades.

I wonder if .357 Sig. barrels will be swappable into the Gen 5 .40s.

As far as using the same .40 slide for 10mm/45ACP, I'm thinking the 10mm round is too long for the frame and the slide.

The LW Timberwolf large G20/21 frame is about halfway between G17/22/31 and G20/21 size.

I heard that the Gen5 40S&W will be released in late October, some distributors are taking pre orders. The Gen5 40S&W should fit some holsters for the G20. I believe that Glock could make a 10mm (with a little longer grip) or 45ACP single stack using this footprint.

I've had several Gen5 9mm and honestly I don't really like the finish on them, it seems good enough at first but I've heard it's not real durable. I realize they want to make the gen5 appeal to a broader spectrum of people, but to me Gen4 is best.

I don't like the front slide serrations at all but sadly, they're not going away because you have too many wannabe tacti-cool people that somehow think a press check makes any sense whatsoever.

It'll probably shoot well because it will be noticeably heavier with that fat slide on it, but the problems that raises are increase in weight and that previous holsters simply won't work with them, and that's a huge deal, nobody really wants to carry a heavier gun and having to buy new gear is a turn off for everyone.

I'm a bit shocked that Glock decided to give the .40 a fat slide, it's absolutely unnecessary and really, outside of shooting a little softer, I don't see any upside to it at all.
