I live in CA, and I just purchased a Gen 4 G19 this past Saturday. Im not law enforcement either. Its true they arent on the 'approved' hand gun list, but there are ways around it. Most shops youll call or go to, dont want to deal with the loopholes in the system, so theyll just tell you they arent available.

I purchased mine from Sacramento Black Rifle. In order to purchase a Gen 4 as a civilian, they have to register the gun through the DOJ as a 'single shot'. Meaning, only one round can be inserted at a time through the ejection port. The magazine cant feed the next round. So, what the boys at SBR did, is install a barrel they made that blocks the magazine from being fed. Then they register it. After 10 days when you go to pick it up, YOU have to remove their barrel and reinstall the normal one. After that, its perfectly legal to own and shoot.

Ill post pics of their 'barrel' and my first Glock when I pick it up.

Umm...that just makes it legal for them to sell it to you, once you change the barrel you are now carrying an illegal firearm...but whatever you wish to do...Good Luck

Thats incorrect. Its not illegal to own, its illegal to buy or sell. The application which goes to the DOJ has the make, model, and serial number of the gun being purchased. Do a little research.

Misinformed people spreading what they believe as gospel is what starts so many of these topics and discussions that spread like wildfire.

The owner of SBR has two locations that do a LOT of business. He isnt going to risk his company, FFL, and jail time just to make a sale.

MAH77, what did SBR charge you for the gun, not including DROS? Is it safe to assume they also install a semi-permanent magazine that can be removed without any permanent damage?

    The Gen 4 was $549. Gen 3s were $499.

I did buy some 30 round mags for my AR there too. They just sell em to you disassembled, because then theyre considered 'parts', not a mag. But, those are illegal to own, unless you have a block installed in em. I only keep 1 mag loaded with 30rnds, but it stays locked in my safe for any SHTF type scenerios.

Theyre currently sold out of the Gen 4 G19s (Go figure!), but heres the link:

Mah77 is dead on right. Here's what I posted under the thread "Gen.4 CA Compliancy" here in Glock Talk:

"Look up the single shot exemption for Taxifornia; a lot of forum posters use the acronym "SSE" when you're researching it. It is explained in detail on the CalGuns forum.

I unfortunately live in Pelosifornia, and own a Gen 4 G17 which I bought a month ago from another Taxifornia citizen who bought it new, in Calif., under the single shot exemption. There are dealers in Pelosifornia who will (add: legally) sell Gen 4s this way. After the new purchase, the owner is permitted to subsequently sell the gun (add: legally) via a Private Party Transfer (here's another acronym nobody ever explains: "PPT"), but you go through a licensed dealer and pay a $35 Transfer Fee, get thumbprinted, and all the other requirements imposed on peasants in our Socialist Peoples' Republic under Dear Leader "Moonbeam" Brown.

I believe, without any facts whatsoever, that Glock will eventually get some version of its Gen 4 models approved for general retail sale in Pelosifornia. Glock, it seems to me, can't logically keep manufacturing a whole line of BOTH Gen 3s and Gen 4s.

Go get yourself a Gen 4 and legally take advantage of the system. It's your right."

Thus, as a Pelosifornia resident, I legally own a G17 Gen 4 and glad of it. As mah77 suggested, once the firearm is legally converted back from SSE to normal, it is completely functional as a standard Glock semi-auto in all respects including parts, legally, including the magazine, its function, insertion, removal, etc. The only restriction, which applies to all semi autos, both handguns and rifles, here in Pelosifornia, is that mags are limited to 10 rounds. Only criminals are trusted with bigger magazines.

Seems to me if it's being "registered" as a Gen4, it will just be a matter of time before the CA DOJ catches on. The serial number will be a dead giveaway, even if it doesn't say Gen4 as model name.

The owner of SBR will just be another in a long line of people that think they are smarter than everyone else and can game the system, until they get caught

Get caught doing what? What they are doing is perfectly legal. What the owner does after the purchase is perfectly legal.

There are no laws being broken here.

They are not gaming the system. They are fully complying with existing law, with absolutely no deception, no intent to deceive or evade the law, full disclosure, all properly filed with the Dear Leader's administration.

My intent of this thread was to inform those who were unsure about purchasing a Gen 4 Glock in Ca, not start an argument when theres nothing to argue.

Guess its what I get for trying to be helpful.

Some of us are stuck here, But we do our part to fight for our rights.

Sadly the gun community in the US, treats CA gunners as tree huggers.

It was a Joke.. Try and simmer down, not sure as to what the reason is to get upset over someone making a comment about the state you live in. Just seems like a pretty trivial thing to worry about, sorry if I have truly offended you.

Just messing with you. No harm no foul.

Anti- Ca. gets pretty bad on GT. What MOST of them fail to realize is we are in the same fight. Some of us just have it tougher. When we find a loophole we jump on it.
