Hello there, Glock lovers!
I've just acquired a brand new Gen 4 G17, and although I don't really need to bother switching the backstraps around, I am very curious as to how those new beavertail adaptors really look and feel.
I have shot a lot of 1911's, and Glocks as well, and I think adding this little piece to my Glock would help me get a better, high-hand purchase on the grip.
Thoughts? Comments? Experiences?
Thanks!
P.S. I'm not really a collector of firearms, and only keep about two handguns around at any given time. One for shooting, and one for show. Most recently had a "higher end" Kimber 1911, and really wanted to like it. I mean, I really wanted to. However, no matter how nice that thing looked, it would fail to feed or eject about once per magazine no matter which brand I used. Sold it and bought this G17 with extra money in my pocket. Glocks - they just function so reliably! Glad to have one around again, and looking forward to receiving my GTL light / laser I just ordered for it!

Congrats & good luck on your G17! I don't think you will regret getting the mighty G17! As for me, I have never shot a 1911, & I'm used to the Glock shooting angle! The beavertail on a Glock seem to add a little thickness to the handle! Just my 2 cents!

DannyBoy1, I haven't felt a Gen4 with the beavertail, but they seem pretty cool. Also, aren't they just like $20-30? If so, that's worth a try. Since I see you're pretty new around here, I figured I would make sure you know about the "Gen4 issues". Your Gen4 G17 may be perfect, but if you start getting brass to the face, or FTEjects/FTFeeds, call Glock. They had some issues with the new dual recoil spring, and also the extractor/ejector. These issues have FINALLY been sorted out, and they are currently fixing guns. Hopefully, yours is perfect, and you may already know about all of this, but I just figured I'd let you know in case. If you start to have issues, just call and send the gun to Glock. They will update the RSA (you can actually call and they will send you the right RSA), and they will swap in the new ejector. Supposedly, this is a real fix.

You will actually get a lower "purchase" on the weapon since you're adding thickness to the portion where the web between your thumb and trigger finger makes contact with the grip.

While I don't think it helps gain a higher hand "purchase" on the grip, if you're experiencing slide bite due to holding it so high, the beavertail will help eliminate that.

Buy it try it, if you don't like it you're not out much money. Report back your thoughts on it after using it a while.

Hey thanks everyone!
Glad to see some responses.
Yes, it is a cheap part, so probably worth a try. No - I was not having problems with slide bite. Not sure I agree 100% about not getting a higher grip without risk of bite... think this is the whole point of a beavertail.
Regardless, I am glad for the welcome to this forum and No - I was NOT aware of the Gen 4 issues.
Hope I have one of the good ones! Still sitting in the safe waiting to be fired for the first time. I have three kids (one of them is 6 weeks old) and a career, so getting to the range is tough at times.
For now... dry fire. Reset. Dry Fire. Reset...
<smile>
I'll report back on both the gun and the grip later.
Thanks again and have a great week everyone.

Personally, Ive never liked how beavertails looked on Glocks at all, and I wouldnt use one unless I was getting "bit"...YMMV

Do we call glock direct or are these in your gun shops already? Thanks for info
The one in my pics is the one my area Glock rep has.

Last I heard (at the end of July) was that they are not yet available, and I don't think that has changed.
