So I have a gen 4 g19 and am looking to buy a complete g23 upper so I can just swap uppers to go from 9mm to 40 sw. Living in NJ is a pain to get another pistol so i figured i'd get another upper instead and have a 2 for 1 pistol. Does anyone know if I have to buy a gen 4 23 upper or will a gen 3 upper work on my gen 4 g19 frame? Thanks!!!

Don't think you can put the 3rd gen slide on a gen 4 frame

You cant Gen 4's and Gen 3's arent really compatible I think there are a few minor parts that can be switched out but anything major can not.

Yes, you can, but it is not safe because of the wiggle room. Some people have shot them like this, but it is not advisable. You can search one of the many threads on here that have already addressed this topic.

No gen 3 upper will not fit a gen 4 lower!

I have tried several G3 slides on G4 receivers and they worked fine.
It was a short term test and I did not leave them on after the test.

Sorry I was thinking of it backwards. The gen 4 upper will not fit on a gen 3 lower. The gen 3 upper will fit a gen 4 lower but like others have said I would not shot it that way.

They are, the G-26 was not in question. KIt was asked about a 19-23 swap.

A gen3 upper will work on a gen4 lower. I ran a gen3 22 upper on my gen4 lower for more rounds that I can count this past summer.
