I have a Gen 3 G22, and have been thinking about doing short term/temporary conversion to 9mm. Do to a diffrent project, I have a completed Gen 3 G17 upper with no home at the moment, along with some 9mm Mags. I am planning on using it for the purpose of plinking/practice (not defense). I do have extra 9mm ejector's, but do not want to go through that hassle switching it back and forth between 40 and 9.

As I see it there are 2 basic options, but ultimately I am not sure that there is much of a difference in reliability. I wanted to see what those with more experience in converting have to say.

    Option 1:
    - Just swap the completed uppers back and forth whenever I want to change calibers, and make sure I use the correct mags. This will leave me using a 40 ejector, but not sure that it is any diffrent than option 2.

    Option 2:
    - Buy a conversion barrel, and just swap the barrels back and froth to change calibers. I would think this would may be less reliable than option 1, since option 1 at least has the correct extractor.

    Thanks for your input!

I would do option 2. I use a Caspian Gen3 35 slide with a conversion 9mm barrel. use the 40 extractor, use the 40 ejector and NEVER had a problem.

edit: I keep an extra 40 extractor with my Caspian Glock just in case if I break it. I doubt I ever will.

You could also buy a G17 Gen 3 lower or build a P80 lower.

I actually have a p80 lower, that i switch from g17 to g34. That is how I ended up with a complete unused upper. Long term I will probably get a serialized lower to make it a completed firearm (for my hand I have found that I like the grip of the p80 better than Glock stock).

Get a KKM barrel and call it good. I have several 22's and 24's than work perfectly with barrel and mag change.

    YMMV

    change no internal.....switch uppers......enjoy!!

I've done both on several different Glock and have never needed to change any internals when switching between 40/357 and 9 mm, didn't matter if I was using a conversion barrel or a 9 mm upper.

unless you plane on getting rid of your 9 mm upper, there in no need for a conversion barrel with your set up, I've even got away with using 40 cal mags.

I've heard that on some occasions, switching some internals was needed to get 100% function with 9 mm but I've never had anything but excellent results, I would do the upper switch and blast away and then, if needed, consider any internals change out.

If I went conversion, KKM is what I was looking at!

    Thanks for the info!
I have no plans to get rid of the upper, but some day it may find a perm home on a new lower. If that happens, then I would get a conversion barrel to be able to run 9 through the g22.

I just bought a Gen 3 17 stripped lower on Gun Broker from Manchester Firing Line in NH, ordered a lower parts kit for the Glock Store but its on back order, so there are lowers out there.

The lower that I am looking for is a pfs9. I am in no rush, so waiting for it to come back in stock and prices to “normalize” is not a big deal.

    Pre-Gen4 G22 To 9mm
    Option 1 - 9mm G17 Slide Assembly and Magazine

The following components differ between a real pre-Gen4 G17 compared to a pre-Gen4 G22 using a complete pre-Gen4 G17 Slide Assembly and Magazine:

    1. Ejector in Trigger Mechanism Housing

Option 2 - 9mm Conversion Barrel and Magazine
The following components differ between a real pre-Gen4 G17 compared to a pre-Gen4 G22 using aftermarket 9mm conversion barrel and magazine:

    1. Slide
    2. Barrel
    3. Firing Pin
    4. Extractor
    5. Spring-loaded Bearing
    6. Ejector in Trigger Mechanism Housing

Is there ANY doubt possible about which of the two above options is the best?
