This will be my first Glock. I shot a Gen 3 20SF today and liked it. The shop owner told me a week ago that he liked Gen 4s much better. Today I went in and shot the Gen 3 and he changed his mind. Dont know if he is trying to get rid of stock but something seemed wierd. I would love to hear from anyone on this. Im not in a hurry to purchase. thanks in advance.

If you shot it and like it, then you could just buy it. You may end up waiting and not liking it. Gen3 is tried and true, great Glock for you first.

A third Gen Glock 20sf is the same as the Gen 4 with the short or small insert in. Very little difference. Get the Gen 3 if you want it now, or wait for the Gen 4. Up to you.

Me? I got the Gen 3 20sf.

To me, it sounds like the shop owner is trying to sell you on that gun. But that's not a bad thing. It's a great gun. I'm going to wait for a Gen4, but that's because I have a G29 and G20LS to keep me company until then. If I didn't have them, I would buy the Gen3 G20SF in a heartbeat.

You have nothing to fear from the Gen 3...mechanically, Gen 4's are pretty much the same...I bought a gen 3 20sf a few months ago and I love it, it is an awesome gun. With all the gen 4 problems glock was having in the 9mm models, who knows what problems may creep up with the 10mm? Hopefully none, but, as has been said, the gen3 is tried and true!

Arushus, I like your signature line. I hate to be the grammar Nazi (and I usually don't point out mistakes), but the English language gets annihilated here on GT. I know it's just a forum, but some of the stuff is just painful. The worst, for me, is "site" and "sight", as in webSITE or SITE, and SIGHTs on a gun. Effect and affect always kill me, too (that's another noun vs. verb thing, usually). Not to go off on a total rant, but the ABSOLUTE worst examples are in Mustang magazines, like MM&FF and 5.0. They have "editors", but apparently, they don't edit. Nor do they proofread. They make insane mistakes like not capitalizing the first word of a sentence, leaving out periods, or misspelling words. They usually have at least two minor mistakes per article. For a magazine, that stuff is inexcusable.

Ok, I'm done. I'm stepping down from the soap box. Sorry.

I've tried the Gen4-21 already(same size as the 20 will be), it's LITERALLY the same as the Gen3SF except for the grip texture. I was thinking about picking up a Gen4-20 if they managed to shave the grip down a little more, but since it is the same I may pass. My Gen3SF is great, get that one and have fun now!!!

The GEN 4 G21 frame, with NO backstrap, is the same size as the GEN 3 G21SF RTF2 frame. With the more streamlined grip (no polymer extrusions on the backstrap & finger grooves), I think it's atleast 1mm shorter than a standard G21SF. The Small Backstrap adds 2mm, the Large adds 4mm. The GEN 4 G20 will use the same frame.

I disagree. I have a GEN 4 G21, (2) G21SF's & a G30SF. The GEN 4 G21 is in another class as far as I'm concerned. The grip is better. The mag release is better. The trigger is WAY better. The recoil spring is WAY better. It shoots softer than my G30SF, and it's been 100% reliable though over 1000rds so far. Out of all the Glocks I have owned, it's my favorite.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the GEN 3 G20's, I'd buy another in a heartbeat. My advice depends on if you're using it for range fun/hunting, or as a Nightstand/CCW piece. All my HD guns are left completely stock, so if you're like me, I'd wait for the GEN 4. If you plan on changing barrels, slides, recoil springs, trigger parts etc, I'd go GEN 3.

That's my bad, I was only talking about the grip size, I didn't actually get to shoot it. I'm sure it improves on the Gen3 in a lot of other areas, but my ONLY gripe against my Glock is the grip. So I don't see a big reason to wait.

Thanks man, I hate to be a grammar nazi also, and Im really not. Ive never made fun of anyone, or pointed a mistake out to anyone in a post. It was just getting ridiculous how often I was reading somebody post, "I need some advise"...You're right about the sight, site thing too. Sometimes I even have to stop and think about how 'eyesight' is spelled, so that way I know that if it has to do with me being able to see it or see through it, it is a sight, otherwise, site...haha. There's all kinds of other ones. There, their, they're- Ive gotten so used to people messing this one up I hardly notice it anymore. Affect, effect is pretty annoying to, and probably the one I have the most trouble with personally. Its, and it's is one that gets looked over pretty often. I have to stop and remind myself that the apostrophe makes it 'it is', and not possessive.

And there is a difference between a mistype, and just being ignorant of the English language. Ill be the first to admit Im not perfect. I rarely add apostrophes, since Im almost always using a Blackberry Playbook and it is a pain in the butt to switch back and forth between letters and symbols, but I can promise you that I know where they all go! I dont go around pointing mistakes out or making fun of people. Hell, we're here to talk about guns, not grammar and spelling!

Ok, now Im done too, sorry for the off topic rant!

Did Glock make a 20SF with RTF2? I thought only full size guns were made RTF2, not SF models?

The grip texture diff is why I am trying to hold out for a 20 Gen4.
I recently held a 20SF and a 21 Gen4. The Gen4 texture really helped me hang on to the gun better than the Gen3 SF.

The only Large Frame (10/45) Glock that was made with any kind of RTF frame, was the GEN 3 G21SF RTF2.

If you're going by "in the gun shop" feel, and not "shooting the gun" feel, I wouldn't put too much stock in it. I will confirm that the grip texture is nice to have, but I never felt like my GEN 3 G20SF or G21SF frames were hard to hang on to. I have Tru-Grips for my G20SF (G20LS), but you could also try Talon Grips, A-Grips or any one of dozens of different Grip Tapes & Decals out there.

I still recommend the GEN 3 if you're planning on aftermarket barrels/slides/recoil springs. The GEN 4's need adapters for ISMI type RSA's, and they haven't been produced yet for the 10/45 series. I highly doubt anyone will make a XP Dual Recoil Spring setup like the factory setup. I have heard that there is a dual spring setup out there now, but I haven't heard anything good about it.

Also, it will be a long time before LWD produces aftermarket slides that are designed for GEN 4's. The current slides work, but there is a gap because of the difference in RSA diameter.

I am a bit confused. When shopping for my 29SF, I was told Glock had not released a Gen4 G20 or a Gen4 G29Sf. Is this a recent release, or did the sales guy blow smoke up my tu tu? I am happy with my Gen3 29SF, but want to stay current or at least try.

He was correct, they have not been released yet.

The OP asked if he should wait for the GEN 4 G20, or buy a GEN 3 G20SF.

The major dif. in Gen 4 is the RCA. (and the grip) You can still go Gen 4 RSA if you like with a Gen 3. Yes so many Gen 4 RCA's have been recalled.
Three things:
1. What is a GEN 4 RCA?
2. No, you cannot run a GEN 4 RSA in a GEN 3 Frame.
3. None of the GEN 4 RSA's have been recalled, just updated.
