I can confidently say that NO ONE has a perfect track record when it comes to prognostications. I am more interested in getting comments on the content of this particular article, not his background or his mistakes, errors and miscalculations.

To assume that anyone is always right is just as foolish as it is too assume that anyone is always wrong.

I agree with it in general, except maybe that you need an AR/AK force equallizer to go with the guns. I read the thread about food riots based on the 80% of income that people in the third world will be spending on food this year. We are not that far away from that for a lot of our population and the unions are raising the level of voilence in the streets. Buy groceries and ammunition.

4Gs are only one part.

#1 is THINK. Use your noodle to develop plans, organize, prioritize, evaluate. Understand that circumstances change, families expand and contract, friendships come and go.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL HEALTH. Let me divide matrix for you. You don't want to face shtf at 6 am this morning without having had a consistent program of physical conditioning. You are the only person who controls whether you are operating at a high percentage of your own physical capacity. It requires mental toughness to have a daily exercise program and stick with it for years.

Physical health means dealing with medical and dental issues on an ongoing basis and not letting things pile up. You cannot necessarily have perfect teeth if shtf at 6 am today. However, you can be on a maintenance program. I have two fillings scheduled for Tuesday. If shtf at 6 am, I still need the two fillings. However, I won't have the physical problems I had last week because I made sure that I went to Kaiser and took care of them this week.

Mental is more than a mantra about God. It is knowing who you are. You aren't your occupation (as most people believe). You are a person with your own specific interests and values.

SKILLS. Sewing, first aid, shooting, mantracking, doing minor servicing on a car, cooking, repairing a toilet, gardening, small engine repair. Skills can keep you alive. Skills can make you valuable.

I am older. In Basic Training, the Captain asked how many of us could type. Only 2 - myself and another guy. He then asked how many could drive a truck. Again, only 2 - myself and another guy. I never stood another inspection and was issued my own truck.

So, try to get beyond the 4Gs if you can. You may very well survive a bit longer.

4Gs are only one part...
Holy cow I thought that I slipped into an iPhone thread for a moment there, I am anxiously awaiting mine on Friday. :tongueout:

Good posting BD. While the initial problem will be survival until the economy settles down, the long term solution is what skills do you have that can either make money or save money. Can you sew? I can see a lot of alteration coming as people lose weight. Strong back? Someone will always need you. Own a dozen fruit trees? Great for trading with those who do not.

And your best point is to always be in the best shape that you can physically and mentally. My wife had two root canals this month out of nowhere, but we did not blink and got them done while we can. I don't worry about you BD, you have it covered.

I agree 10000% with the skills part. Reading WWZ and seeing the ratings of people hit home. I DO NOT want to be tagged "unskilled - fit for labor" or whatever it was accountants and stay at home moms got tagged.

Nothing happened BECAUSE of the scaremongers.

For the last year or two prior to the New Year, everyone worked furiously to remediate, replace or scrap the two digit programs. We would have had quite a mess if not for that. In fact I recall there was a program on a pc I had that there was no re-write for and it crashed. Legislation was in place to protect companies that had produced Y2K errors so Gateway refused to support the scotched program.

Of course that was the last PC I ever bought from them.:wavey:
