I’ve lived in Illinois all of my 57+ years and grew up an avid Chicago Bears fan. In all that time, I’ve never heard anyone utter anything but respect and admiration for Gale Sayers. Not one bad/controversial thing, ever. I’m seldom saddened by the passing of someone I’ve never met but I was truly sorry to hear this today. May he rest in peace.

I no longer watch the NFL but today’s generation of players and fans could learn something from this man.

R.I.P. Mr. Sayers. I read his book I Am Third back in school and did a book report on it. Brian's Song is a favorite movie of mine (the original one of course). From what I have read about Mr. Sayers over the years, he was a good man.

Condolences to his friends and family.

He endured his with abilities and character. He felt those spoke for themselves so we seldom heard more from him. God's speed Mr. Sayers.

Well stated. I often thought of him as the football version of Lou Brock (who coincidentally also recently passed). He let his athletic talent speak for itself and lived a dignified and respectful life on and off the field.

Dude was quick. Too bad his pro career was cut short due to injury.

Yep... cut so short that he is the youngest person ever to be enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame.

Maybe his knee injuries were a blessing. Better your knees than your head or broken bones right?
He was insanely talented. Nothing left to prove.

Good video; note he had great moves, too. What speed! The only guy who’s even close to keeping up is the back judge. :D

He was a real class act and talented athelete. RIP Gayle Sayers. You caused this Packers fan a lot of aggravation.
