GA: Monticello PD to disband. Town cites lack of funding.

    I think this story will be xeroxed across the country a few more times this year.

    Looking closer to home, it is reported that for the 1st time in the history of the dept, the NYPD has more retired officers alive and receiving a pension than on it's workforce. IIRC They also said that # did not include simple "resignations".

    No kidding. They usually like to gripe about the Police not doing anything to help their neighborhoods and then call for the scalp of a cop if he puts a dent in the worst POS from the hood because said POS resisted arrest violently.

    Little cities like their own PDs because they like the political control they have over them. Now that money is super tight they might be willing to give up that control for more money to throw elsewhere.

    I think my city could try threatening us with that next contract to try to get us to give up stuff. The city would regret that because the majority of the PD would either not care or actually want to join the SO.

    I agree with you. I am also curious about all the retired officers being alive. I wonder if they are "alive" or just drawing pensions. :upeyes:
