Hello everyone, I am new to GT and am looking to purchase my first handgun as I have just come of age. I have already joined GSSF and am debating between the GR17 and G34, I can't help but wonder what besides the extra .7" makes up the $100 difference between the two. I realize that the extra distance between the sights will help with accuracy, beyond that though I am lost. Any comments would be appreciated.

I have both. Both wonderful weapons. If it's your first gun, get the 17, it's the original.

The G34 will also include a "-" connector and an extended slide release lever
Greal platform for a GSSF shooter, range shooter or home defense. I do not
believe it would be a very practical CCW. But, it's possible

I would say get the 17 also, it's the most popular in GSSF and just an awesome gun period.

    Yup.

What's with all the G34 threads today?

    I dunno,......I almost bought a G17L a while back.
Realized, while it would be a fun range toy, it would be otherwise useless.
Decided on the "must have" Glock, the G19

You're getting 3.5 lbs or so trigger, extended slide lock, extended mag catch and adj. rear sight. G34 is the same size as 5" 1911 which is a prolific carry gun. As compared to G17 you get better accuracy and faster shot recovery. Extended mag release and extended slide lock are very useful if your grip doesn't interfere. Lighter trigger pull comes at expense of some grittines. G17 is a tiny bit quicker out of the holster and from target to target. Also, Glock fixed sight is better than Glock adjustable sight.

When purchased through the GSSF program from a local LEO distributor, that is not always the case. My local dealer orders theirs with the standard connector. It still has the extended slide release.

I have a G34 and it is a great gun. I have taken some Defensive pistol type classes with it and it works fine.

If I was buying a gun to shoot GSSF I would buy the G17 as it puts you in a better classification for a chance of winning a new pistol certificate.

The G-17 is also good for the range, home defense and can be a CCW.

I have a G23 at the moment, and am prepping and stashing savings to build a custom 34 on a LWD Receiver in the next 2-3 months.

Just made arrangements to trade my Ber 92FS CompactL Inox for a Glock 34 with extra mags and accessories in about 2 weeks.

I just picked up a 34 OD and I love it, I agree though probably not the best for concealed carry, but I could do it as I'm 6'5.
