Seen at local gun show some 31 round mags for my .40S&W, but didn't know who the made them and didn't want something that would cause problems. Do most extended mags work properly ?

I have one of the 31 round extended mags for the .40 pistols. It functions ok. not something I would stake my life on. the first 20 roudns are fine, but the spring loses power on the last 10 rounds and if you fire rapidly, it has a hard time getting the next round up fast enough. Just my experience, however it is great for the range. works fine in my 22, 23, 27, and my kel-tec sub2k in glock .40.

added: BTW, not sure who it is made by.

Korean made, they usually work fine for the range.... But, I am sure you won't be carrying them.

that would be great to see someone try to conceal a 31 rounder as a back up though!
