When I called Glock about this subject they only recommend a 40 to 357 sig conversion. Anyone done the 40 to 9 mm successfully? If so what barrel manufacturer do you recommend? Is it necessary to change the guide rod/spring too? Are all simply drop in parts! Will 9mm mags just fit in the frame?
Thanks for your interest in helping.

Lots of folks run 40-9mm conversion barrels successfully.
Most common are Lone Wolf, KKM and Storm Lake.
The factory guide rod and springs are fine unless you're running
really weak ammo that will not drive the slide.
    The parts are drop in.
All you need is a conversion barrel and 9mm mags.
Most find the 40 extractor/ejector works fine with 9mm.
9mm mags will fit for the same size or larger gun (G19/G17).

you really dont even need 9mm mags, the 40 ones work fine. i however do not advocate "training" with 9mm and carrying .40, the 2 rounds feel completely different being shot. i believe train as you fight.

like 63B said "train as you fight". if you just want to go out and plink some targets for cheap, thats fine. but make sure you still fire plenty of .40 if its going to be your carry or home defense weapon.

I have the Storm Lake 40 S&W to 9mm conversion barrel and G19 magazines for my G23 conversion to 9mm...mine has been 100% reliable with 124GR cartridges and near 100% with 115...if I carry it as a 9mm I use 124GR Speer Gold Dots and have no worries about continuing at 100%...

    ...lately I have carried my G23 as a G32 with a GLOCK brand G32 barrel...also 100%...

I use Lone Wolf conversion barrels in my G-27, 22, 23 and 35s.
All I change is the barrels and mags. No problems at all and the ammo is cheaper. I also have 357 Sig barrels for the 23 & 22.
    They eat everything.

    Stay Safe!

this is exactly it, for a cheaper shoot, sure use a 9mm barrel in the 40, or to say have someone younger involved in shooting its a good idea, just not training

I bought a G27 last week and a 9mm conversion barrel early this week. For some reason I had a malfunction on almost every magazine when I tried to use the 40's. My 9mm magazines have been flawless though.

I have a Lone Wolf 40 to 9 conversion that I got off ebay 3 months ago for $120. I use a 9mm magazine and thats it!!! Never had ANY issues what SO ever, I've even bought the cheapest ammo I could fine just to test it out. I used the russian Tulammo (over a 1000 rounds) and my Glock has functioned PERFECTLY! I LOVE MY GLOCK 23

I'm guessing the reason Glock recommends only 40 to 357 conversion only is that the case head on a 40 and 357 are the same. The corresponding area of the striker hole in the frame is wider than that of the 9mm.

That said, I've fired hundreds of 9mm through my G23 using a Lone wolf barrel. No problems.

    Hi, Jim L. from. Oswego.

I'm Jim L. from the Adirondacks. Glock, being proprietary, is not going to recommend another company to provide a conversion barrel. An OEM .357 will drop right in to a .40 with no other modifications.

However, many of us use Lone Wolf, & other mfr barrels to convert to 9mm. I have an LWD 40-9 conversion for my G27 and purchased some G26 mags, but have used G27 mags in a pinch at the range.

You might need a lighter spring in the G23, but Glock uses the same for the 26 & 27.

With the conversion, I have the same complaints with 115 gr ammo, that a lot of folks have about their 9mm's. But using the 9mm as a training caliber, will also give you some "malfunction drills"

IMHO, you can't beat .40 caliber Glocks for dependability. So I save $ by practicing a lot with 9mm, and depend on my .40 set up for SD/HD.

Glock 32 barrel will drop in a G23 for .357. Glock doesn't make a 40 to 9 barrel for the G23 so naturally they wouldn't recommend.

I used a Lone Wolf 40 to 9 conversion barrel and it ate everything I fed it. Some have reported problems with reloaded ammo not working with the Lone Wolf barrel. Lone Wolf has been altering barrels for home loaders for free last I heard.

I got a Lone Wolf .40-9mm conversion and a 9mm import mag. Had lots of failures. Then I loaded my 9mm ammo into mt .40 mag....PERFECT!! Not a single misfire....Moral of the story..don't buy a cheap import mag.
