I'm planning on purchasing a full frame .45 at the end of the month.
I plan on using this for HD and possibly to carry when I hike.
Is the 21 any more reliable than the 21SF?
I'm leaning towards the 21...I have the 30 and the grip feels great.

I believe this is the only difference. Love my 21SF, fit's my hand better than the 21.

I did not notice any difference! But that is just me.
Best of luck for whatever you buy.

Pyg is correct except for the problematic ambi mag release on some 21sf's. I have one of those, it's not an issue for me but seems to be for quite a few folks on the forum. Additionally some sf's come with the Pic rail....the rail makes finding a holster somewhat more difficult. The 21sf is, however, available with the Glock rail and the normal mag release.

I personally have experienced no reliability issues with either the 21 or 21sf.

My wife gave me a G21 SF Christmas (09). I have run +/-15,000 rounds of Winchester White box throught it without a single problem that I can remember. Also about 500 rounds of Double Tap 230 flats. I like this weapon and have no concerns and keep it in a gunvault next to my bed as my HD weapon while sleeping.

There is absolutely no reason one should be more reliable than the other. It's a Glock, it's dead reliable when left the way it comes from the factory. Buy what fits best.

outside of the Ambi-mag release - which have had breakage issues - I agree with you. I have seen no difference between the G21 and G21SF in reliability - I ended up filing down the "ambi" button on mine with no issues.

I can't see any difference in reliability.

Agreed. I was just going by my own experience with a non-ambi, standard rail, 21sf. There's a reason they discontinued the 3rd Gen ambi's in the US.

Thanks for that. That really helps in showing the size difference in the grips :wavey:

    That picture is very helpful.
The ambi-mag release; That must have been he problem I was referring to.
    I knew I heard/read something about it.
No recoil issues/differences between the 2 models correct?

    Am I able to order a G21SF w/rail and NO ambi-release? If so, That's what I'll get!

    Thanks for the help fellas.

I had a 3rd gen G21, while it was accurate I did had some light primer strikes. the local Glock armorer check it out but with no luck because I still had them, but I have a G21SF now and Im happy with it.

I had a 3rd Gen 21 I bought in either 1998 or 1999. I put a BarSto barrel in it because I was handloading at the time and shot mostly cast bullet reloads. It went through 25,000+ rounds without a weapon related malfunction. Jan of last year I bought a 21SF with the Glock rail and standard mag release and put a KKM barrel in it. With one batch of left over handloads that had the bullets seated out a bit too far I had an occasional failure to fully chamber with the SF. Other than that ammo problem (it feeds everything else I've fed it) the SF is on track to match the older one.
