Purchased a used G21 from around 2004 date. Appears to have been shot very little. When I "ride" the slide forward it will catch just out of battery then pop into place. If I point the muzzle up and "ride" it forward it will catch out of battery and stay, point the muzzle forward again and it will pop into place by itself----normal? THANKS

Replace your recoil spring assembly. They are cheap.

Had a similar problem on a G21 gen3. Procured 2 new recoil rod assemblies, priced about 5.00 apiece. End of problem with the slide catching when field striping. The weak spring was letting the rod assembly slide out of position for slide removal. However, the gun still reliably fired.

The difference in spring tension is noticable between the old and new rod assemblies.

Lots of people and I had trouble with this with the 21SF. I don't know if it's the deal with yours. but it was the trigger bar - in particular the bump on top of it that releases the firing pin safety plunger, hitting the slide -- rubbing against it and causing the slide to hang up. Try this -- hold the trigger back as the slide closes, pulling it rather hard. If it's worse doing that, then that's your problem. Mine just got better with more breaking in. You can polish the trigger bar "bump" and that will help, too. The trigger bar flexes and hits the slide in various places. It helps also to release your trigger earlier rather than later so that this flexing is kept to a minimum and reducing contact with the slide. Hope this helps. Joe

Clean and lube the gun. If that doesn't fix it, replace the recoil spring with a new one.

I had read on other posts that you will need to upgrade the trigger bar and the ejector. It already has the 8196-2 ejector but only the 4256 trigger bar (which I believe it needs the 4256-1). Will this also help? THANKS

Your 2004 G21 does not need a newer trigger bar.

Correct, it needs a new RSA!

Actually that problem sounds a bit similar to a test I believe I learned in armorers school that oddly is a method to possibly determine whether the RSA is strong enough...

As posted earlier, it should be fine once you replace your recoil spring assembly. Good luck with it.

Tried a new RSA for my G21 and no change. In holding (un loaded) G21 upward and pulling back on the slide then riding it forward it still does not go into battery. Point it forward and it pops into battery. Any other suggestions?

DannyR gives good advice. Replace the recoil spring assembly.
