So i have always wanted a Ruger SR9. I love the gun and always shot it really well. I have a G19 with Meprolight night sights on it that I dont really use or carry all that much. Its mainly my nightstand piece. Im gonna see if my local store will trade me straight up for a new SR9 to become my new nightstand companion.

G19 Gen 3 has less than 250 rounds through it. Ive had it for about 5 months

SR9 price is $409.00 new

Watchyal think?

If you can pull it off good for you but trade in G19s go for $350 or less. One of my LGS has used G19s in the case for $379, but to be fair the they only come with one magazine.

I think you would be lucky if they offer you $300 for the G19. You would be much better off selling it locally or on here. You could probably sell it really quick for $425 and then go buy the SR9.
that's it !!!
they will not trade you gun for gun they have paper work to do .. so they will be at a loss on some money .. that's what they told me one time when i wanted to do a gun for gun deal :wavey:

I would be amazingly surprised if they did an even trade. It is NOT in their best business interest to do that. Here's why:

They trade you even, so they essentially bought a used G19 for what a new one would cost, but they can't sell it new, say $500+. So they have to sell it for say $425 - $450 to be competitive with their new guns, meaning their margin on this gun would be anywhere from $16 - $40, or between roughly 3% to slightly less than 10%. So won't likely happen, here's why:

For the same effort they can offer you say "generously" $300 for your G19 plus night sights, mags, and box. You'll cough up the $109 plus tax. Now they'll turn around and sell that G19 for $425 - $450, meaning their margin is now anywhere from roughly 40% to 50% of the value of the gun.

Sell the gun privately for between $400 - $425, and buy the Ruger. Though I like my Glocks better, I do have to say Ruger did a good job on the SR9's trigger.

Best,

Dave

"Always"? How old are you? They haven't been around that long. Certainly not long enough for you to be old enough to buy a firearm legally.

What? I have always wanted one since they came out in late 2007 (four years ago). And I am 33 in 3 weeks. Thanks!

Dave great write up! I appreciate the advice, I might think about this longer. I cant see taking that much of a hit to change guns because I simply want to.

As others have suggested... I'd advise you to sell the G19 locally, and then buy your Ruger outright (if you really want to trade a G19 for a Ruger). Values of used guns differs quite a bit from place to place, but one thing that remains consistant is the fact that a gun store is in business to make money. You might be surprised how inexpensively a dealer can obtain new guns. I'd imagine that your local shop could order a brand new G19 for about what they are selling the Ruger for. It just wouldn't make sense for them to make that deal.

That being said... It never hurts to ask. I just wouldn't get your hopes up. Around here... A nearly new Gen 3 G19 with bright night sights can fetch $450.00 or so on the used market. I recently paid $425.00 for a Gen 3 G32 with Trijicon night sights. I'd say you stand to make a much better deal by selling the Glock to a private individual.
