G19 slide on a G17 frame

I see a lot of people Bob the grip of their G17 to accept G19 mags.
I want to go the other way. I love the feel of the G17 gen4 frame, but I want a G19 slide,
Is there more to the mod then sorting the dust cover.

My favorite 1911 was a 4 in Springfield.
Sorry if this has been asked before.

Yes, you could put a G17 barrel in a G19 slide, however it still wouldn't work because the nose of the slide has to impact the frame at the original location of the forward rails in order to cycle correctly. It would be .47" short of unlocking.

Several polymer framed guns are "similar", except they all have more parts than a Glock, but it still doesn't work because the lockup is not the same between the G19/G17 frame. A Glock slide is not a "dust cover" its a slide. And in a Glock the barrel to slide fit is what controls the accuracy, not the slide to frame fit like a 1911. Notice the old style narrow slide lock spring in the G19, which was subject to breakage. The distance between the red lines on the frame is the lockup.

I imagine a good gunsmith could cobble together something to shorten the slide and such of a G17. I imagine it would not cost much more than a few thousand dollars, and probably work at least part of the time for a few hundred rounds...

While I was waiting for him to do the work I might use a G19 with a 17 round magazine and one of those X grip magazine sleeve devices.

Not hard at all, use the G19 slide and part off the G17 barrel and re-crown, that's easy. Now the hard part, cut the G17 frame between the area show in blue lines and just super glue it back together,,,,,,, Probably go at least one round

The G19 is one of the least versatile of all Glocks (along with the G38) with respect to using the barrel from any other model. The barrel under-lug and camming surfaces for compact models are identical to and engage the locking block in the same manner as the subcompact models only, so they are completely incompatible with any larger model That means you can use a G19 barrel in a G26, but obviously not the other way around. It also means you can not use the barrel from a G17, G34, or G17L in a G19. In fact, you can use no OEM barrel in a G19 except another G19 barrel.

In contrast, a full-size Glock like the G17 can use the longer OEM barrels from the G17L or G34, and a G34 can use the longer barrel of a G17L.

The same limitations also apply to the G23 or G 32, but at least those two models can use the OEM barrel of the other caliber...a feature that all 9x19mm Glocks lack.

Get a G22 or a G31 if you want maximum versatility for using another caliber or a longer barrel. A G22 or G31 will accommodate the barrels of a G22, G24, G31, and G35...three different barrel lengths, two different calibers. Sweet...and all using more effective cartridges than .380ACP Magnum (9x19mm). :)
