And if pre lock S&W revolvers weren't all that there would be no S&Ws with locks.
New does not always mean improved.
Not that Gen 5 Glocks are not better. I really don't know since I am perfectly fine with my Gen 3 and 4s and just haven't bothered to look at gen 5s
Actually just swapping out the Gen 3 ejector for either the Gen 4 or Gen 5 ejector does fix the BTF issues. I was getting random BTF with my P80 G19 build until I installed a Gen 4 ejector.
I must be completely numb to things. Was shooting this weekend. My bud brought his 17 out to dial in the RDS. I shot it a bit, then I shot my 19. It was great.
After just seeing this thread I realized that my 19 is a Gen3 and his 17 is a Gen5. Nowhere in my brain was it triggered the guns felt different.
For me and now my buddy, the most annoying thing about the Gen5 is the barrel change. None of his match ammo would run through the stock Gen5 barrel. Nor would AA match ammo. COL is too long. He has swapped to a KKM.
What is this weak ejection thing folks speak of? I have never experience such in my Gen3s.
Getting hit in the head by each and every ejected casing
Not really. S&W was on the verge of bankruptcy and Saf-T-Hammer bought them out. Saved the company at a dear price. Just me but I think at some point S&W will offer no-lock versions of all revolvers and regain their reputation.
My opinion, having owned both, I like the Gen 5.
Never cared for the Gen 3 texture (needed Talon grips or similar) or the finger grooves and I've found the Gen 5 finish to be holding up better than my Gen 3s and 4s did.
Trigger took some getting used to but I've come to appreciate and prefer the Gen 5 trigger as well.
I see no reason to own a Gen 3 any longer.
Hum, I have never experienced this issue. I must be doing something diffrent.
I wish I could find them in a local LGS around here to see what all the hub bub is all about.... and some ammo to go with it.
I didn't get hit in the head with every shot but it happened at least 4-5 times per magazine which is enough to be annoying. I normally wear a baseball cap and the cases would land on the bill of the hat and roll off.
The difference is that the Gen 3 ejector comes to a point on the end while the Gen 4 and 5 are flat on the end. The flat end does help with ejection and keeping brass from hitting you in the noggin.
Be glad. I have had 2 Glocks in years past that did this. It sucks..
If I shot weaver - EVERY casing hit me. Isosceles - it worked fine... Weird...
Why can CA only have gen 3?
My guess would be that Glock has not submitted a Gen 4 or 5 for testing by the State of California.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Don't manufacturers have to pay the state of California to even test firearms to be included in their approved list?
I don’t think any new pistols made it on the roster since 2010??
No gen 4 or 5. The state has all sorts of crazy requirements that not a single pistol manufacturer has met.
Good ok’ CA! But I love it here.
My Gen3's have served me well, no reason to change for anything else. As far as ejectors go, if you haven't the mechanical aptitude to swap em' out, maybe you need to buy a High point and be done with it.
Weaver Stance - that might explain things. I think I am sitting on 20+ Gen 3s right now and never ever had an issue. BUT - from day one I have been an Isosceles guy since I cut my teeth with autos via the action pistol world. I may have to try the weaver thing for giggles just to see.
I’m like you. Lots of Gen3’s and never had a BTF issue. Actually, I thought that was only an issue with some Gen4’s?
It was an issue with Gen 3 and Gen 4. I had a Gen 3 19 that was terrible.
