I know the Gen 3 is THE Glock. Still known for the insane reliability, the ability to handle the famous Glock Stress/Torture tests etc and something like 20 years in the making. How does the Gen 5 stack up to the 3 in terms of reliability and durability? I have never owned a Glock, but Im looking to pick up a 19 sometime in the near future (if I could find one) as a winter EDC.

    Thanks all!

It's a Glock. There's no reason to buy a Gen 3 unless you live in CA.

    I have gen3’s and gen5’s. I love my gen3’s but from here on out, I’ll buy gen5’s.

Welcome. I would get the Gen5 which solves the possible BTF or weak ejection issues with the Gen3's.

Wait for the gen 6. It will be the same as the 5,4,3,2,1. Glocks are glocks. All the same. Get the cheapest generation in price you can find.

They’re definitely not the same. I like the Gen5 the best. My favorite features are the front serrations, flared mag well and grip texture.

Thanks everyone! The Gen 5 is a really nice looking pistol. As long as reliability is the same, Im in!

I hate threads like this because I can now see myself buying a Gen 5 19. Having said that my Gen 3 RTF 19 is probably the one handgun I would keep if restricted to only one - well maybe my Sig 226 Navy.

I was late to the game with gen 5s.
    I’ve been carrying a gen 3 and gen 4 19 for years.
I recently purchased a gen 5 19 mos, and am putting it through its paces. Reliability is there so far and it’s more accurate. I’m loving mine and have switched it to my EDC.

Gen 5 just does not do it for me. To be honest, neither did Gen 3. Not that they're bad. They just don't float my boat, as the saying goes. Every generation has hit that sweet spot for someone and that's just fine by me.

The gen 5 is a excellent firearm. It's what made me love glocks again.

    I bought a G19.5 before I bought a G19.3. Go figure!

The Gen 5 Glock is not the same as a Gen 3 Glock. The Gen 5 has many improvements.

I own two G19s - one gen 2 and one gen 3. They are as reliable abd durable as Glock can get. I actually like the finger grooves on my gen 3 G19 (that many people hate) because they fit my hands well. I have tried my friend’s gen 5 G19 once and its “out-of-the-box” trigger was as good as my other well broken in Glocks, though.

I EDC my Glock 19 Gen 3 365 24/7 regardless of the weather. That is why they make a OWB and a IWB holster. :fred:

That is the key right there, the finger grooves DO fit your hands. I have yet to find any pistol no matter the brand that has finger grooves that fit my small hands. I prefer the Gen 5 for that reason. Nothing wrong with a Gen 3 at all with reliability or durability.

Glock 19 Gen 3 is Glock Perfection. Gen 3 incredibly better than Gen 1 or 2. Gen 4 and 5, no significant improvement JMHO.

Get a Glock 19 Gen 3 for the win and you will be "good to go" my friend. :fred:
