It is a shame this thread doesn't have more activity. I like my G17 more and more each day. It is my winter carry gun, and my IDPA gun. I like it better than my G34 for competition. It is faster out of the holster for me and tracks better.

Definietely my favorite handgun of all time. I have shot and carried many others but nothing compares to the G17. Weight, size, trigger, sight radius, capacity, and above all, reliability.

I was at the range with my daughter on Sunday and noticed a couple of young girls in the booth next to us shooting a G17. They must have seen my daughter shooting hers and after comparing targets they approached her and asked for advice. Of course she sent them my way, and I got to spend an hour teaching a couple of young girls the finer points of the G17.

In the end they walked away with new found skills and confidence in their choosen handgun for HD/SD. So easy and fun to shoot that from beginner to master its a great gun for just about anything.

OP, keep shooting that G17! Do you carry something else in the summer?

The Glock 17 has all of the qualities of a full sized pistol with the lighter weight of many compacts. With its 4.5 inch barrel you will not be running hot +P and +P+ loads at reduced velocities either. It is a good rugged and reliable choice for anyone that carries a handgun in the field for protection. While the 9mm does not produce the energy levels of the larger 10mm it does with the right loads have the ability to penetrate deep. Check out some of the testing of the 147 grain JHP loads over on Caliber Corner.
