I saw both Glock G17 Gen 5 and G45 Gen 5 side by side in a display case (did not get to handle or shoot either yet) and both look sweet. . *For those who have both or have shot both - what is your take on the G17 Gen 5 vs. the G45 Gen 5 ? If you prefer one over the other - please list why ? ... Both are tempting , yet I have a G17 Gen 3 that I love with a great broken-in trigger and Ameriglo night sights ... Thanks in advance for replies !

Personally I chose the 45. Not that I don't love 17s, I do but I already have a gen 3 and 4 so I got the new kid on the block. If they do release the G47 as rumor has it I will get it. You can't go wrong with either; have the shop put both on the counter, close your eyes, do a 360°, reach out to grab one and you will be GTG.

The correct answer is the one you like the best. Handle both and shoot both if possible. Personally, I like the 17, but I don’t have a strong reason. Some users express a difference in feel or balance, but I think after 100 rounds it won’t matter. There is no wrong answer really.

Get one or the other and enjoy shooting. If you can’t get over the one you left behind, add it to your collection!

I am fortunate to own both. They are both exceptional. Yet different.
The 17 is the quintessential Glock. The 45 has an unbelievable balance to it.

If you are only going to get 1 [and you have a 17], get the 45. You won't regret it.
Add the 17 when you can.

Be safe

G45 for sure. The balance feels better than the 17, a tad better for carrying in different positions on the body, especially while driving. Can be conceal carry and home defense. Perfect tweener if you can’t decide between the 19 or 17. I personally think it’s the best Glock makes.

Like you ChrisD46, I own a G17.3 but with Novak Night Sights. More than pleased with it over the years so the G17.5 is not going to happen. I do how ever own a G45 that I really like due to the G19 slide length fits all my current G19.4 IWB/OWB holster's that I own. And it's a soft shooter IMO. So to me purchasing the G45 was a solid purchase since I have plenty of G17 17rd magazines to boot.

Thanks wife , you owe her a back scratch or foot rub.

I prefer the 17 size although I carry a 4.25 inch 1911 every day. My 1911 is closer in size to the G17. I may be buying a G5 G20 when available as I dont carry 9mm when better is available, the G20 and G21 are better choices.

G45. Shorter slide means faster slide cycling, better holster options. You won’t notice the accuracy difference with less the width of your thumb in slide length.

If you had been able to shoot and handle both guns I'd bet that you would prefer the G45 over the G17 for the way the G45 points and balances in your hands. I've shot both and I much prefer the G45 and I've never really liked the G17 and always preferred teh G19, but I really like the G19 with the G17 grip.

I've also shot G17's with shortened grips using G19 magazines and in spite of theories to the contrary, that is the worst possible combination as far as balance and point-ability. The G19x is also nice but I don't like tan colored guns unless I'm in a desert environment wearing desert camo.

I don't have either 1, the largest Glock I have is a 19. seems like the 45 would be easier to conceal.

Yes , similar situation ... I own a G17.3 and G26.4 which are very nice but now looking for an upgrade , different , better in 9mm . The G45.5 MOS may be the best bet ?
