When you compare a G17 Gen 3 and a G17 Gen 3 RTF2 the grip is different. Is the different grip the only difference between the two? What does RTF mean? Thanks, Bill

    Rough Textured Frame, maybe?

A real expert will come along to give us the definitive answer.

    You are correct.

I'm no expert, but I've read about this topic...

Standard gen3 frame is a RTF. RTF2 is a more aggressive frame texture that was available for gen 3 - better suited for gloved shooting, and/or in very wet/humid environments. That was the only difference with the gen 3 frames, IIRC.

RTF3 is the gen 4 frame texture, and was developed as a middle ground between RTF(1) and RTF2. Apparently most people thought RTF2 was too aggressive for carry (constantly catching on clothing) and not loved among competitive shooters (too abrasive on skin)... So I've heard anyways, I've never owned a gen 3 with a RTF2 frame.

Thanks GP4L. My friend just bought a used G17 Gen 3 RTF2 and I was interested in learning more about his gun. Thanks!
