I am leaving my church of five years. They somehow found out that I was CCWing in the church - the Valley Bible Church in White River Junction, VT, and they informed me that I was no longer welcome there with my pistol. And more recently, a church member hosting a church gathering in his home asked me to not carry to the gathering. Now this is in Vermont, where any non-felon is free to CCW just about anywhere - no CCW licenses issued in VT. So I will look for a new church, and NO ONE will know that I am armed - in the church and while not in the church. :steamed:

Wisconsin's CCW goes into effect November 1. I just emailed one of my church leaders this morning to ask if they've discussed a policy position yet. I'm still waiting to hear back. Sorry you got the left-foot of fellowship.

The guy who owns the house...his choice. But stupid on the part of the church. Maybe they'll be visited by a shooter one of these days and they can thank God that they had the common sense to ban CCW.

How did they know you were CCing? Did you mention it to a friend or church goer? How did it make it to the head of the church?

Just cut them off. A church that cuts someone off for following the law is not a church you should be going to. It's better this way.

I went on a group bike ride and my G17 was in a shoulder-holster because it got in the way of pedaling otherwise.

Shop around. Am sure that there is another that also carries your conservative views.

How many times in the last few years have we heard of some lunitic walking into a church and starts shooting the place up. Seems like they would welcome anyone leagally and responsibly carrying.

They would rather consider ME to be the one who would shoot the church up. I CCWed there for four years.

I know it's a long commute, but we have a place for CCW in our church. And we're having our second trap shoot of the fall on Saturday. We're very gun friendly here.

As to CCW in a person's home--their home, their rules. With regard to that, a little humility goes a long way. I my home there's a no alcohol rule. No BYOB when Mrs. LTB and I have a friendly get together at my place. But, I've told my friends that they can CC all they want.

I'd move there if I could . . .

Sorry to hear that SCmasterblaster. The Lord, my family, the Pastor, a few deacons know that I carry to church, none have issue with it. I plan on keeping it that way.

There will always be the "turn the other cheek" people in every church that fail to understand that passage has nothing to do with not protecting yourself or family. I feel no guilt, shame, or regret in carrying into the church that I helped build with blood, sweat, tears, hard labor and money, and I won't allow another persons irrational fears and illogical misconceptions of those that carry for personal defense change my decision.

If the Pastor, Deacons and the church body wouldn't trust me to carry a gun into the church, then why should I be trusted to be the Youth group leader, or to teach a teen boys class on Wednesday nights? If I'm trustworthy enough to teach teenagers and take them on day trips and activities, why would I not be trusted to carry a gun to church?

Ok, sorry, rant over now.

Just last week attended a Baptist Church in FL.. the sermon was on "thou shalt not murder" & the pastor mentioned that a number of armed "volunteer security officers" were strategically located throughout the congregation.

Is this a small church, or a very large church? I've pretty much attended small churches my entire life... usually knowing the Pastor on a first name basis. I couldn't imagine him telling me I couldn't carry there. I'm not sure if he knows whether I do or not, it's never really came up, but he knows I'm a "gun guy" and I'm sure he's probably saw my gun on occasion when I've been helping him w/ various chores around the church.

Sorry this happened, hope you find a new church expeditiously.

There are about 250 folks there. I have already found a few churches that don't find if I CCW.

I know most probably consider that "small" but to me, that's big. Our church has about 70-80 regular attendees/members

Even the US Post Ofice? That's against the Federal law . . . . .
um, there's a federal law against carrying at the USPO? OK this will open a flood of opinion... but there is a law, BUT, it's unclear on whether a legal CHL carrier can carry there or not because of the words "other lawful purposes". The wording below:

US Code Title 18
§ 930. Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities

(a) Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.
(b) Whoever, with intent that a firearm or other dangerous weapon be used in the commission of a crime, knowingly possesses or causes to be present such firearm or dangerous weapon in a Federal facility, or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.
(c) A person who kills any person in the course of a violation of subsection (a) or (b), or in the course of an attack on a Federal facility involving the use of a firearm or other dangerous weapon, or attempts or conspires to do such an act, shall be punished as provided in sections 1111, 1112, 1113, and 1117.
(d)Subsection (a) shall not apply to— (1) the lawful performance of official duties by an officer, agent, or employee of the United States, a State, or a political subdivision thereof, who is authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of any violation of law;
(2) the possession of a firearm or other dangerous weapon by a Federal official or a member of the Armed Forces if such possession is authorized by law; or
(3) the lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes.

This concerns me... admittedly, to this day, I always carried in the PO...

Would you like to be the "test case"??
