Great pictures Matt, thanks for sharing.

    Congratulations on you win!

Congratulations to Butch and the rest of the Gunny competitors. It was a fun match with great weather at an outstanding facility.

I look forward to next year.

Matt, what are those black rings on the D-1s?

Just paint so they could see edgers.

For CGR and any others who shot it:

Did you think the black paint helped or hurt your shooting?

    :headscratch:

Would another paint combination have been better?

    Solid white?

    Black circle and white outer?

    Something in a plaid?

    Comments, anyone?

    ;)

I'm thinking a black circle with white all the way around it might have been a better combination. Edgers would be clearer on white paint, whereas a hit on a black circle would have opened it up anyway.

I did not even notice the black when shooting, I was looking at a specific spot on the plate itself.

If I wanted it easier I would go with only an 8 inch plate but part of the match is to make it hard and the GSSF crew came up with a very tricky target to shoot.

Its very hard to tell if you hit the plate or not, especially at speed with the large stock sights. They dont fall all the way down so you can still see a lot of the plate after a hit.

Matt, what Glock did the Masters have to use?

Thought so! I'm sure many folks around here would appreciate hearing the Masters' shooting impressions of the G21 SF. (Not me so much; I'm happy with my GAP Glocks and the G21 SF won't be available in California anyway--and even if it were, it would have Clintonized magazines! I really dislike buying the latter. My G37 magazines are restricted to ten rounds by the laws of geometry, not the laws of California!)

Another question: I recognize two members of the Fearsome Foursome in Matt's picture, but who are those two on the left of Matt and the Gunny?

You must mean my hero (for his helpful posting on GT), Butch Barton! Matt, Butch and Grady are certainly all shooting heros, of course.

    Thanks!

    Great pics Matt!

I think it would have been more difficult without the black paint, it helped you to see what part of the target to aim at.

And like Matt said, the plate does not fall all the way, so it takes more to be sure you had a good hit. This causes one to shift his focus away from the sights and to the target, which tends to cause poor hits.....and sometimes a miss.

Here's a video of one string. Strangely, even though the video quality isn't great, the light and/or camera angle seems to make it easier to see if the plate fell than it was while shooting it!

Do you think it would help to put up something like a blaze orange "card" or piece of plastic behind the plate so when it opens, you can see a more obvious color change to know you hit it?

    Norske,

Yes, the orange color would show that the plate had fallen and would be easier to detect that your hit was good. I think that the black paint around the plate helped to identify the center. The first year that we shot the COF for the Gunny, we did not have the painted outline and the detection of the center was more difficult.

Perhaps allowing the plate to fall farther before stopping behind the target would be the answer. After reviewing the construction of the plate racks, you would only need to shorten the "stop" bar.

We are all grateful to Glock for promoting this match and want to send our "thanks" to Glock for sponsoring the event.

Does anyone know the address and to whom we should send a letter of "thanks" and support for next year's Gunny?

Bobby, I know that when I sent them a note & pic that ended up in one of the reports about my kids' enjoyment at Oakdale Donna said just send it to them (GSSF) at the regular 6000 Highlands Pkwy address in Smyrna, GA 30082.

You can also send to Donna Bouchard at GSSF; give her a call at 770-319-4780 to verify the above.

If you'd like to, I'm sure the Army Marksmanship Unit would appreciate some kudos as well. Their Public Affairs Officer can be emailed at: USAMUAPA@usarec.army.mil which I got off their website here.

Thanks for your continued support of GSSF!
